This is a bit off topic but not totally so. I've been offered a Zeiss ZM Sonnar 50/1.5 for less than 600 euros (it's in good shape). I already have the Contax G Zeiss Planar 45/2, the Contax Tessar 45/2.8 and a Voigtländer SL 40/2 Ultron.

I dislike the focusing adapter of the G 45/2 and I find the Tessar a bit slow at times. I don't have much experience with the Voigtländer yet.

Should I buy the ZM 50/1.5 and sell the others? I am radically downsizing my collection so suggesting that I should keep doesn't help Smile

Buy it! One of my fav lenses! You won't regret it for a minute

That is a lower than average price so just make sure there are no unmentioned surprises

Realized I only answered one half of the question

I'd say you should keep the G-45/2 and sell the rest because the ZM 50/1.5 will stay stuck on your camera

From the money you get by selling the lenses, you might want to consider a body that takes M mount lenses so you can put your 75 APO ASPH and the ZM 50/1.5 to proper use

The M9 classic sells for appx 3500€ nowadays ... Just saying Very Happy

Thanks Hari for your input, I'm very tempted. I really don't know what to do, I have far too many expensive lenses, but this one is well priced, and it could perhaps replace my (2) Minolta Rokkor 58/1.2 lenses which are wonderflul at f2, as is the ZM. Very nice bokeh, 3D, modern T* coatings. Anyone else like to comment?

Price / performance for most M lenses on the NEX is pretty bad. Would you really see a difference between the Zeiss ZM and any other 50/1.4?

Simple answer: Yes!
I've not tried the 50/1.5 but generally Zeiss ZM series easily beats the crap out of "any other 50/1.4" at any aperture.
And Zeiss ZM are also a lot more compact.

On dpreview there was a guy called alupang, who painstakingly compared various of his lenses on NEX, which included several ZM lenses, then came to conclusion that Canon FD line convincingly beats ZM lenses and sold all his Zeiss. I definitely remember Biogon 35mm f2.8 being beaten in his tests by FD 35/f2, not sure whether he had 50mm ZM.

I certainly don't buy wholesale statements that arbitrary Zeiss ZM beats the crap out of "any other 50/1.4 at any aperture". FYI Zeiss ZM 50/1.5 has a reputation of being soft wide open, with serious focus shift, but very nice rendering. Here's a decent review that has links to other reviews as well http://lavidaleica.com/content/zeiss-c-sonnar-t-1550-zm

The 50/1.5 is one of the softer lenses at f1.5.
