I will not comment on findings but this needs to be corrected. Lens is 6 elements design.

I will not comment on your findings, but the Rollei Zeiss Distagon has this lens section, apparently:

Rollei Zeiss lenses often have not the same optical constructions as their Contax/Yashica counterparts. For instance the Zeiss Planar 1.4/50mm for Rollei QBM clearly has a different optical construction than the Contax Yashica Zeiss Planare 1.4/50mm (I have them both).

You are correct. Only two elements in front with one being quite chunky. I opened a sample, long overdue, being totally corroded, probably sunken in some wrong liquid.

Thank you for confirming it - especially since your knowledge is real knowledge (from opening the lens) while I just had read about it ... It's always important to have first hand knowledge indeed!!

Thanks Smile. We all follow our passion here. And together sometimes remove the veil of mystery from an ancient history. I say ancient, because new generation calls digital cameras from 15 years ago, vintage.

Well, the mistery has been solved. 5 elements 5 groups for the rollei zeiss distagon, the same as the carl zeiss 35mm f/2.8 for qbm mount. The contax zeiss 35mm 2.8 had 6 elements: https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/consumer-products/downloads/historical-products/photography/contax-yashica/en/datasheet-zeiss-distagon-2835-en.pdf

phillipreeve.net says the rollei and contax versions of the 50mm f/1.4 have the same optical design, could you elaborate a little more on the differences between the two lenses? I will be reviewing the Rollei version soon to see how it compares to the contax, and could't found more information on the differences of this two versions of the planar 50mm .
