Looking to buy a cheapish 35mm rangefinder, to do a little street photography with. 17 year olds budget of about £30 max, dont want anything special, seen some good looking leica copies on ebay, wondering if anybody has anything similar or better?

Ricoh 500G, Olympus 35RC. Very compact, very good. I think they're more suitable for your intended use than the Zorki types. In my experience, other things being equal, the focussing is easier on them and the eye relief better, and for street use interchangeable lenses isn't a big plus.

I've a Vivitar 35ES rangefinder that fits your budget.

Missing a self timer and a couple of dents in the body. New light seals and I've put a few films through it. 40mm F1.7 lens which is sharp wide open. Shutter priority and all black.

20 quid if you're interested?

I used a Minolta Hi Matic E for this. Auto everything except focus and film wind. Did a good job, and they're cheap enough.

I also have a Minolta Hi Matic AF2 -- which is auto everything except for film wind. Haven't used it yet, but reports I've read are that it's a good picture taker too. A bit big, though -- bigger than the above "E".

Sometimes you can pick up one of the Oly XA series for cheap. Yashica Electro 35 models are very common, but kinda big. I like the Canon QL17, as do many other folks, so it's hard to find one of them for cheap, but not impossible. I also like the Canon AF35ML, but it's auto everything. Still a great picture taker though, and has a fast f/1.9 lens.

I'm mid-roll on this one. It's a great RF but they aren't cheap and usually need the shutter serviced (as mine did)
