I forgot my tripod the other night for the fireworks, so i was taking pics of ppl and such , I managed to get a semi decent handheld shot of my daughter backlit using ISO 12800 , it was almost pitch black outside and manually focussing my 50mm f1.4 was a pain , however, I was wondering which is the better version here of one of the few shots that was close to being in focus;

the colour

or the B+W

I think BW is better, because here picture looks grainy, not noisy, like in colour Smile

I agree, the B&W
and dude, you are using a K-x. Did you use - enlarged - live view for focusing? In these circumstances it really helps!

Kuuan , no I didnt , I was using the viewfinder and it was almost impossible to focus!

I learned a lot about my camera however and a lot about night photography so it wasnt a wasted trip

Live view would have been a better option for sure, I keep forgetting about that, but I am not aware how to enlarge the LV .

thanks for the tips, I was thinking the same, at very high ISOs , the K-X looks like it has film grain , especially in B+W

after pressing LV for liveview
press INFO button for enlarging,
press again and it enlarges more, resp. once enlarged you can use the wheel to scroll between more / less magnification
use the 4 buttons around the menu button to scroll to the part of the frame you want to view enlarged
press MENU button to go back to 'non-enlarged' view

Too much noise in colour, but it looks really good in B&W =)
