Some advice from those who might know please.
Are there any differences in types, or between lenses manufactured in different eras or locations among the JUPITER-36B 250mm f3.5 lenses?
Or are they all the same?
Do they have the same reputation as the Tair for excellence?
Your advice is appreciated.
OH

I have not heard of any significant differences between versions or years. There were late ones with MC but those are actually quite rare, maybe only made for a year or two and then the lens was discontinued. Prior to 1980, the aperture blades are a copper material as opposed to greyish aluminum. Never seen a difference resulting from those however.

It's a lower contrast lens at f3.5 but decently sharp. Maybe the MC version is better in that regard. One of my favorites from flickr was always this pic with the Jupiter: http://www.flickr.com/photos/34314408@N05/5102086598/ I think it shows a good bit of character.

I have the 36B. I have used mine to shot some birds. It performs well IMO on pair with the Tair 3. Keep in mind that this is a very heavy and big lens (medium format), but the build is really nice and the price tag is competitive Wink

As far as I know the main difference is cosmetics. The newer versions were a bit more slim, and a bit lighter, however no other alterations were made.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
Is there any other lens in the 250mm range that you might recommend over the Jupiter 36B?
Much appreciated
