I've just won a 5D classic on evilbay.
As I'll be using it to MF mainly I wondered if other 5D users could share their experiences with focus screens that they've used. I have a modified K3 screen in my 40D which works well, but as Canon make some interesting screens for the 5D I was wondering which might be better.

Congratulations!
I'm very happy with the Canon Ee-S screen. It's darker stopped down, but between f1.2-f2.8 the sharpness will pop out of the viewfinder. _________________

I have an EE-S cut to size for my Pentax, and it's a really nice screen. I prefer it over the traditional split screens.
BTW congrats on your purchase! Can you divulge how much you paid for it? |

Congrats Martin, i'm sure you'll enjoy it as hell
for me the EE-D original screen was good, but i switched for an EE-S way much brighter. It is very usable in bright conditions up to f8. _________________ Happy owner and user of :

Hi,
it depends on what lenses do you prefer..
The original screen works better for not so fast lenses >f.2.8 and slower.
The EE-s screen is constructed for lenses faster then 2.8. For this lenses it gives the best focus accuracy, especcial for 1.4 and 1.2 lenses.
If the used lens is slower then 2.8, the screen is going to be darker then the normal screen. But you can use that also ..
Me, i did use the EE-s and now on my 5D MKII the EG-s Pendant for all my lenses. Works great! Its the best screen you can get for "little money" and fits perfect on the cam. Dont forget to register the Screen in the Menue of the cam for measurment accuracy..
Cheers

The 5D I bought from Henry has the EE-S instelled. And I really like it.
Thus, I'd like to second his recommendation. _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

Congratulations! (is there an echo in here?) I sense there will be some wide angle photos posted soon.
Ee-S focus screen works well for focusing lenses opened faster than f/2.8; the faster the lens the more the focus pops. The fast screen gets darker with smaller apertures (bigger f/#), but no big problem when there is enough light. as i said the ee-s allows viewable subject until f8 in good light conditons, read = sunny. even more if you have an af confirm adapter you can focus then go until the smallest stop.
