In term of ND and polarizer. I have a light craft workshop variable ND mark 2. When I use it outside, it soften up the image. I'm looking to upgrade from it. Thinking of getting a mattebox and bigger filter so that I don't have to buy lens rings for all my lens.

For polariser, I use Hoya or B+W. The B+W is easier to clean.

I do have a Hoya 4 stop ND, but I can't say that I need them often.

I forgot yall are photographers, not videographers. We videographers have to set our camera at 1/60th most the time so ND are more important to us. Rolling Eyes

I use Hoya HD polarizing filter. It was pricey but I don´t regret the investment at all. Main difference between this and cheap polarizers is how it behaves against strong light sources - ussualy small or no lost of contrast, and only sometimes some reflections on picture. I have some other older B+W and Hoya filters and the difference is pretty big.

As Rolf mentions, the Lee and Singh-Ray filters are considered to be very top-notch in the industry,
with the Lee system being in such high demand, that they are almost impossible to acquire in the past
several months. I've often read about problems acquiring the Lee filter holder systems, let alone
acquiring the filter glasses. When the Lee systems come available, the internet community usually
announces it with much fanfare, only to have the stock sold out within minutes, so you have to be
very quick to buy whenever you see mention of Lee filters in stock. They are quite expensive, also,
as they are literally handmade.

Singh-Ray filters are also expensive, but not so much as Lee filters. They are more readily available
than Lee filters, and can be had for less cost than the Lee systems. The quality is reported as being
very high, while production certainly surpasses the output of the Lee, making them much more-easily
attainable. MaxSaver.net and a few other Hong Kong-based retailers regularly offer the Singh-Ray
filters at discount prices, and have been proven to offer the genuine OEM items.

So, what do I use?
I have a bunch of cheap crap from DealExtreme.com. Wink
I've acquired a couple of good Hoya filters along the way, such as a 58mm UV and a 58mm
720nm IR, but most of my filters are just el-cheapo "Green-L" and similar UV and CPL.
For the prices I paid for them, I really can't complain about these filters, especially the CPLs.
They do what I ask of them, they were very cheap to buy, and I've been able to put one or more
of them on the end of each my lenses. As I learn more about and experiment with filters
such as ND, IR and CPL, I will probably begin to spend more on each filter as my knowledge
expands, but until then, I'm perfectly happy with the very basic offerings from DealExtreme
as I begin to better understand how these filter types may help me with the results I'd like to see
with my own photography.

Most of my filters are Hoya and those produced by Hoya. Almost all my filters are UV.

I have always thought B+W filters are top of the end. So this Lee and Singh-ray are even higher?
