My favorites are:
Leica APO-Telyt 3.4/180 - fantastic at infinity, great at close range. My best APO lens, it's impossible to get color fringing even wide-open. Don't be mistaken by the f3.4 aperture, in real use it's closer to f2.8 lenses than to f4. Unfortunately on FF vignettes up to f5.6. Here you can find my review and some samples on crop and FF too.
APO Lanthar 4/180 - fantastic at close focus, very good at infinity. It shows some CA in comparison to APO-Telyt. I think that light transfer it's more like f4.5 than f4.
Leica Elmarit-R 2.8/180 second version - the CAs are very well suppressed, at f4 is hard to distinguish it from APO-Telyt. At close distances is probably even slightly sharper. Very small and light for f2.8 lens.
Other lenses tested:
Leica Elmar-R 4/180 - very good and light lens. At f4, the contrast is slightly lower than Elmarit v2. Overall IQ is between both Elmarits at same aperture (sharpness, CA, colors, contrast).
Leica Elmarit-R 2.8/180 first version - better than Sonnars but worse than above mentioned lenses. Low vignetting even at f2.8, very uniform sharpness over FF field wide-open in comparison to CZJ Sonnars. Optimized for WO performance, it reaches it's best at f4.
CZJ "Olympic" Sonnar 2.8/180 - nice contrast and colors, sharpness isn't on pair with above mentioned lenses. But with stopping down it sharpens up nicely.
CZJ Sonnar MC 2.8/180 - slightly softer WO than "Olympic" version, but stopped down the field sharpness is better - this lens was clearly optimized for 6x6 format. Overall IQ of both versions is comparable. _________________ .: APO-Maniac :. |
