What do you recomend for someone who wants to start shooting with film?

I only shooted with Digital but now I'm thinking I could start shooting with this amazing cameras.

I'd like a SLR but I never used one in film and I don't know wich ones could be good to start.

Buy a Yashica
With a $10 m42 to eos adapter you can shoot every lens in your list with a C/Y mount camera.

The FX3 2000 is a fully mechanical full manual camera with a built in meter.
Usually they go for well under $50
Of course you can go as far as you want from there (RTS III for $1000)

With Yashica I could use all my lenses?

I have 2 c/y and 3 M42. I have M42 adaptor (with AF confirmer) to my Canon. I'm not seeing how I could use that 3 in the Yashica body.


That under 50$ sounds good to start.

I want to try the "real" b&w Very Happy

I use film for wide angle shoots , so camera body is dependent for me from wide angle lenses.

Basically you can shoot on film successfully with any camera if you have a good light meter or you use your digital camera as a light meter.

I tested following film cameras till this time:

1) Yashica Electro 35 produce amazing quality.
2) Olympus OM2n, Nikon FA both are very good one photography a joy with them.
3) Praktica VLC-3 robust,simple camera ,loud , but very reliable.
4) Konica FS-1 very nice camera, good to use.
5) YAshica -FR1 I didn't have luck with first roll, it not forwarded film (it was my fault)
6) Exa IIa nice little , very simple camera.
7) Yashica MAT 124G intresting to use after SLR , produce quality 6x6 output.
Cool Rolleiflex 6x6 Automat stolen right after trial, very precise camera even if 70 yrs old!

Many , many Prakticas, Exaktas, Zenit etc. Pentax MX, Kodak Anistigmat, Olympus Trip, Pentax 645

I bought this one and it works fine for most lenses. If you get a really fast lens with a large rear element you will need an adapter with no flange. This one is flanged for auto M42 lenses. It will work with all the lenses you listed. BTW that is a picture of the camera I referred to .

We allways have to use a lightmeter using film cameras or some of them have it incorporated?

(sorry if I look ignorant)

Many newer (and a lot of older) models do have built in light meters. A camera body with metering will generally cost more. USUALLY, the more you spend the better it is. You could look at Canon film bodies as well. The Yashica and Pentax M42 bodies are built like tanks and are reliable, not to mention inexpensive!

There are very few good cameras without TTL meter - notably Contax and Leica rangefinders and their Japanese and Russian clones, and the Exakta series (plus Nikon F/F2 and similar pre 80's pro cameras, if they happen to lack a metering finder). You will however encounter many otherwise desirable cameras with broken or unreliably aged meters, so having a handheld meter is advisable, if only to test your camera.

Establish your budget and deside if you can live with manual exposure. Any Yashica or Contax body will have at least an exposure meter
Many also have AE so you can use the camera as you do your canon
You pick the aperture the camera picks the shutter speed.
Ae is I find particularly useful when using a lens in stopped down mode (as you will do with M42 lenses)
If you can find and afford a Contax RTS or 139 go for it either has AE and manual.
Sometime you will find a nice one for under $75 but usually closer to $125
The Yashica FR 1 is another option for an AE and manual body.

The FX3 I mentioned earlier and FR are both full manual and really a pleasure to shoot.
Either of these will be the least expensive. Smile

I use only M mode on my Canon 400D. I'd have to get used to it on film cameras.

I think that Yashica would be the best deal. With that adaptor I could use all my lenses on it.

If someone find a nice/cheap body please tell me.

Seems cheap enough and you should be able to work around a burned out LED, did you ask which one was out. Get a firm shipping quote before you bid. Shipping may be too high and it would be wise to look elsewhere.

This is a M42 camera it will not mount the bayonet lenses you have.

I have an FR1 I could send you for cheapo and shipping but it has one problem
The prism has a squirly in it so the viewfinder is not perfect
It is still very usable but you would need to "deal" with the viewfinder or clean it.

The first has one of the best ML lenses.
That black FR is hot ! The lens is a real winner also and f1.4.
The last may go cheapest. The FR II is a AE only cam but built like a tank and a wonderful shooter Cool no lens but you have a Planar Wink
