Do you know what folder that came from ?
It looks like a unit focusing type (not front cell focusing).
I am wondering if there is a problem with internal haze on that. Old lenses often have contrast problems, but I would expect quite good contrast from a Skopar, as it is a Tessar formula.
If it is a front cell focus type you can play with making your own soft focus effects ! _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Luis,
Hi!It is a front cell focusing type. There was was fungus in this lens , I managed to get a lot of it out-but not all .They are living in the front cell between the elements-and looks like too risky to take it apart,to clean it. Do you have any experience taking front cell apart-I'd love to hear.
It came off a Voigtlander Bessa maybe?-took 120 film-I chucked the folder the minute I got shutter and lens off.
Cheers,
Its the lens to your right.

The haze inside the front cell is typical for old Tessars.
I have fixed the haze problem on a couple of Skopars, of the unit design, and a front cell focus type on a Brillant.
On the fixed Skopars you have to unscrew the name ring using a friction tool and remove the front element, which is loose.
If I recall correctly this was unnecessary on the one on the Brillant. You have to remove the name ring by unscrewing the two tiny screws, and I believe there was a notched ring behind that to release the front element.
Unfortunately I left the Brillant at work and I cant check.
The old Tessars are better, as there is usually a knurled ring on the back of the front cell that allows you to separate it into two mounted elements. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

Thank you Luis for following through. I feel I can open it now, to clean between the front elements. I did remove the front cell by way of removing the two screws you talk of, when I initially cleaned it.
As you suggest I should be able to to use a friction tool without removing the 2 screws and address the element in that fashion. I should have thought of that- I feel more reassured about tackling this now.
I walked down to the waterfront and took some pictures as it was sunny-and the haze was more prominent.
Thanks again
