It's a very good sharp lens, particularly at 200mm, I say 200mm because 205mm is a strange figure and when I tested it up against other zooms @200mm it wasn't any longer.

The 75-205mm Vivitars I've seen are Kiron/Kino sourced lenses denoted by the 22 serial number.

US$60 is about right for one only in tip-top condition.

I see series 1 70-210 Vivitars going for a lot less than that all the time on ebay.

A very sharp lens and does quite well on the short end of the focal range as well. Well worth $50 if in good condition. It will shoot with the Series 1 lenses any day of the week. I preferred the one touch myself but the two touch was a better built lens and just as sharp. Let me know if you get it as I have a 75-205 matched 2X multiplier I can send you. Free of course.

Quite probably, the OP doesn't mention eBay, If I see a lens offered in a used camera window or pawnbrokers I'll always pay more for it, than I would if it were being offered on eBay. For one, you can check the thing out, even try it on your camera before commiting. I personally wouldn't pay more than $30-35 incl delivery for any manual focus zoom off eBay.

Because a Vivitar lens isn't a "series 1", that in itself doesn't automatically make it inferior. I wonder have you ever tried this lens?

Don't know about Ian but I have. I've owned 5. All were from Ebay and usually cost between 35 and 60 dollars. Degree of cosmetics making the difference as well as the higher priced ones had the original caps and box.

There are quite a few manual focus lenses I've bought off Ebay for more than 30-35 dollars. Some as high as 600 dollars not including shipping. I've been disappointed only 3 times.

I haven't used it but I do have the second version of the S1 3.5/70-210 made by Tokina and it is a really good lens, definitely sharp. Others speak very highly of the first version of this lens made by Komine and having handled one, it looks and feels like a sperbly made piece of kit.

When I said the S1 70-210 could be had on ebay cheap I wasn't disparaging the 75-205, merely stating that the known to be excellent S1 70-210 is commonly seen on ebay and often goes for peanuts, particularly in FD mount, I have seen a couple of them go for 10-15ukp in the last couple of weeks.

I picked this lens up for 5gbp under the Hanimex brand. Not bad but not worth 60 bucks.

I for one knew what you meant Ian and agree wholeheartedly. Very Happy

I have that particular S1 lens (I modified the C/Y mount to fit my Pentax P/K mount camera) and I kept it and got rid of my 3 other S1 70-210 lenses because I liked the Group 2 so well. It is on an even par with the 75-205 lens. Might be a touch sharper at infinity but they are quite equal to my eyes in IQ. Not in build quality though. The group 2 S1 is a lot better in fit and finish and you can feel the quality difference just by picking them up. Saying all that the 75-205 is a bargain compared to the S1, going for about half the price or less than the S1.
