I have been thinking about a Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm f/2.8 MC M42 lense for a while. I have some canon L lenses and a 17-55 IS. They have served me very very well. Actually I have been thinking about this for a couple of years.
What do I gain with the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm f/2.8 MC M42 that I don't already have?
In all seriousness I am open to suggestions/thoughts.

I should add that I have a 1.6 camera

Ron, I don't have this lens, but you need to see some of Orio's work with
the Flek 20/4, amazing stuff! And it was amazing on his Canon 400D, too.

Glad you're here, it's a great site, Ron. I'd have to leaf through the back
pages for some of Orio's pics, so I'll be back in awhile.

I may not be up Bill. I'm getting old. I have to have my warm milk and cookies before bed. Or is that another adult beverage.

Milk is not my friend any more. Found out I'm lactose intolerant last
Christmas.

Here's some of Orio's work while I'm looking for his Flek 20 stuff:

The 2.8/20 Flek is one of my mostly used lenses. The characteristic of this lens is the short focus distance an the fantastic sharpness wide open.

My favourite super wide angle lenses

Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm f2.8 MC
Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 20mm f4 zebra
Olympus OM 21mm f3.5
Olympus OM 18mm f3.5
Tamron SP 17 f3.5

Both are recommended, weakest member of this group Tamron SP 17mm f3.5.

What a great lens once in nice hands !

Today arrived a CZJ Prakticar 20/2.8 MC : probably the latest Flektogon for 35mm film camera produced? It's in Praktica B mount that I will have to convert to EOS mount.

I've got it in hands today and I confirm it's a geniune German Flektogon, only the mount, focus grip and front ring have changed since the M42 version. Cool

COOL! I am glad you get one of the best 20mm lens.

60 euros for a flek 20 2.8 Confused where do you find such deal Florent Surprised

PostPosted: Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:27 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I've found it on a german classified website. It was listed at 50 € for some days when I contacted the vendor. I think it was still there because it was not labelled as Flektogon but Prakticar (indeed Flektogon is not written anywhere on the lens), and Praktica B mount are not well regarded lenses because of lack of flexibility (no adaptor for EOS, no film cameras but Praktica B series).

Flor, do you know how to do this conversion to EOS?
Is it easy?

I bought my eMC Flektogon 20/2.8 (almost mint) on Saturday and my feelings are mixed a bit. Close focusing is very nice, the lens is still compact when compared to wide AF lenses, but it doesn't shine as e.g. Pancolar 80/1.8, which is superior to many AF lenses. I made a fast comparision with Sigma 17-70 macro. At f/3.2 both are similar, Sigma has sharper corners, Flektogon has sharper center. AT f/8 Sigma outperforms Flektogon quite visibly.

f/3.2
Flektogon / Sigma

f/8

It's not easy at all, actually I've did nothing on it because of problem with aperture transmision that is too near to the Praktica mount piece and use it too : a lever is fixed on it and without it you can't use the aperture ring.
