when you get it you will see. You made a good deal never mind this lens is one of the top lenses, rare CARL ZEISS so 100 USD more or less doesn't matter. On rare items like this I never think about much to take it. Unbelievable sharp even at wide open, this was one of your best investment. This lens will keep it's value 10 yrs later also.I believe your digital gears value will less than a few bucks. People are strange they are buy new digital bullshits for 2000 USD or more and afraid to pay 500 USD for a masterpiece. _________________ -------------------------------

This lens looks a really nice one. It may be worth it to do the convertion. I am not familiar with the Practina mount. Usually I would think that it is more sacred to keep the native mount. If this lens will never be used again because the mount is not useful then I say it should be converted. It should not cost more than it will be worth. As we all know the performance and character of this lens Maybe you can get the seller to credit you a discount since they gave a false description |

Praktina mount can sometimes be very easy to convert.
The register distance is VERY long in Praktina, 50mm. That means there is a lot of room to play with for any current SLR mount, even Nikon.
If you don't find a pro who can make an adapter cheaply, it looks reasonably easy to make a home-brew adapter.
The pictures of your lens (and it looks like its in lovely shape, good buy !) shows a very short external barrel (which is too wide for a t-mount) and a rather long internal one, which should fit in a T-mount easily.
I think my favorite method of an adapted T-mount will probably work neatly. You could start with an EOS T-mount, remove the inner ring, and work from there. If the setscrews are too short you can buy longer screws. Or you can use the tape method (don't laugh, it works, I use it on a Telemegor 400) - wrap electrical tape neatly around the barrel where you want the screws to bear until its thick enough to fit closely inside the t-mount, then screw in place. The tape will also protect the lens barrel.
You may need to grind a bit off the inside of the opening of the t-mount to clear the Praktina bayonet lugs, those look like they will interfere. A Dremel tool works wonderfully for this sort of thing.
There are many other ways of doing this too. An M42->EOS adapter is another starting point, or an EOS reverse adapter, or even an EOS metal body cap. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

When I look at the pictures of the listing I notice a couple things. It seems the rear element position suggest a very long register distance. This should make it less difficult to adapt. Also the mount is quite simple it may be possible to have an adapter ring made rather than a full conversion. I would suggest go to M42 rather than Eos. This will give you mount flexibility to Pentax, Sony, or Sigma in the future. Your chances for success here seem high. |

Does this mean that I can buy an adapter to M42 mount and put another M42 to EOS adapter ring? |

I'm not good with fixing things...
I'm afraid that I may ruin the lense if I try to make the adaption by tearing it apart....

An M42 reverse adapter may work as a starting point. On one side this is a male M42, on the other its (usually) a 52mm filter ring.
If the inner barrel of the Biotar fits inside this, then it seems to me that if you drill and tap the reverse adapter and the Praktina lugs, you can screw the reverse adapter directly to them. If this doesn't give you the M42 register distance (which is 4.5mm shallower than Praktina) then you can add a spacer.
There are probably a million ways to do this. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

To use on Nikon you need a Nikon mount conversion, M42 lenses on Nikon body not support infinity. _________________ -------------------------------
