M42 on the Nikon (with M42->Nikon adapter) should be OK, its just that if you have set the thing for infinity focus for M42 it will be a little off for the Nikon, as the Nikon register is deeper by 1mm.
The Biotar is actually quite easy to adjust for the infinity focus, you need to disassemble the focusing mount but that is very simple. Its really a simple lens. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

I would suggest Bob Dodds. He is a member here and you can send him a PM. Search the memberlist for his PM box. He goes by: BobDodds
If he does not do it you should check into the guy Attila knows in Hungary. |
I've already PMed him.
I hope he answers....
It seems mount conversion is the way to go.
I'm really afraid to disassemble the lens ( or camera for that matter) myself.
Like you said, I'd probably convert it to M42 mount so that I could use it on other cameras as well.
Again, Thank you all for your support. |

if you were to choose between this biotar and Contax 85/1.4, which one would you have chosen, and why?
I'm having the usual afterthought... |

The Biotar is probably a better investment over time.
Thats a well-known and highly collectible lens. People will want it even if they are eventually rarely used.
The other is merely very good ! (by reputation, I've never tried it)
People by that kind of thing for use, and it risks obsolescence. _________________ I like Pentax DSLR's, Exaktas, M42 bodies of all kinds, strange and cheap Japanese lenses, and am dabbling in medium format/Speed Graphic work. |

I have the Contax 1.4/85 and love it. It is truly a classic that will become a legend. The Biotar has long been a legend and is at the top of the list of lenses to any collection. My feeling is you will never lose with either. You have found a great lens at a great price in the Biotar. Do not look back. Luis is correct. The Contax lens will be around to be had for a while still. That Biotar is a finite commodity you should turn and run while you have it |

The buyer has agreed to refund the money, after deducting the Ebay Fee.
I think I'll accept the offer and find another biotar.
That biotar lens looked really clean....
I wish I didn't have to go through mount conversion... |
