Yesterday, Richard's Helios-81 arrived! Thanks very much, my friend!

Today I had the chance (due to a surprising free lesson) to play around with it a little.

Gosh, this lens is sharp! Used on my 350D you really need to be careful with re-sharpening. You can easily overdo it!

But it definitely need a lens hood!!! Wink

And here is one shot with the Vivitar 2.0/28 (also on 350D).

More, including shots with the Volna-3 on 40D later...

I always saw great pictures coming out of this lens, Carsten, and yours is no exception. Congrats on the great purchase.

Just two lessons off, because the class I had to teach was away.
No holidays for us in August any more. Confused

Glad it arrived safely!

I found it's performance very much like the 50mm 1.8 E Nikkor (including the exceptional sharpness and need for a hood!) - I suspect the optical designs are pretty similar.

Nice and sharp but the colours look a little washed-out to me Carsten, very uncharacteristic of a Russian lens. I realise you weren't using a hood so maybe I'm looking at flare, but is your camera set to Adobe RGB by any chance? Or maybe you were using the lens wide open?

Edit: Looking at them again maybe it's just the very bright sunlight, we don't get to see that very often in these parts! Smile

Yes, Peter, no hood and Adobe RGB.
But this wall looks like that in reality. The colours seem OK to me.

Hmm... maybe it's my browser or my monitor then. They look quite pale and cool to me.

What I mean is that they look real, just the way they looked when I was there (which was at about 11 am, so not the best time to shoot.)

EDIT: Peter, now I know what you mean! I just have seen the shots with the Volna-3 on the 40D. What a difference!! Shocked
