A bit surprised here at minimum focus distance.
Image is without manipulation, except for resize- s.o.o.c. jpeg.
At f-8 and ISO 250, D-810 slightly over-exposing in "A" mode.
Crops show good detail, and strange bokeh for stopped down that far.
This lens is not the do-all that is expected out of current lenses.
It has a tendency to flare, with light sources no where near the image area.
There are much better choices in the camera bag for landscapes.
A hood is a good idea for this one.
Just something for me to file away in my memory for when there's no time for extension tubes.

I love that lens. Aside wide open, wich is glowy, is one of the sharpest 50 mm I have ever tried (among vintage ones, of course). All the field is evenly sharp, so I see no problems to shoot landscapes with it. |

I have tried landscapes with it at f5.6 and f8.
The "K" based 50mm F2 leaves this one far behind when it comes to landscapes.
I really haven't done much with it on film, which of course may be a completely different story.

Well, mine is significantly sharper than the Leica Summicron R I, for instance. I'll test it soon, against some other good 50, I have some. |

Later on, I'll get into my files, and see what's what for comparison.
I thought I had run a test and did the results here much previously.
For now, there's fishing to be done

The old F2 is a huge improvement over the edges of the F1.4.
I was sure I had posted results of a somewhat similar test almost 7 months ago here, but cannot find it.
The 1.4 handles high lights a lot differently.
All images have no manipulation other than the crops you see here, and re-sizing to meet forum parameters.
The 1.4 knocks the F2 out of the ball park with the MFD imagery though- by quite a margin.
MFD with the F1.4
MFD with the F2

At f5.6 here and ISO 200 with an elderly SB-22 bounced off the ceiling. Note the slightly obtrusive back-ground.
Similar shot at f4 and ISO 64. Note how the back-ground has "melted" away by opening a single stop. The red and yellow objects have almost disappeared.
I'm still learning with this system. Let's see if anyone here can figure out what the other major difference is between these two exposures.
A slight hint is that it's in the camera controls
