Snagged this guy for only $41 + shipping in pristine condition, and love absolutely everything about it! Close focus ability, solid build, half stops for aperture, colors it gets, you name it!
Had I found THIS kind of deal, I would've gotten it instead of my Nikkor-H 50, but alas...
And some extension tube play
and to end it on a yummy note-
First manual lens I've owned that truly fit my daily needs like a glove. Lens that fit naturally and simply worked as I'd want a lens to.
***I do have one huuuuge question- does anyone know what year this guy is from/what version/revision specifically?

Agreed you stole the lens and are very fortunate. A Super Wide II for that price is remarkable, pristine or not. I search every day; cannot come close to your deal. Everyone wants that lens. Unfortunately. |

Ah that's the problem with many of us as we don't have the top lenses to compare our lenses with...it would be nice if some rich member had a collection of the best 24mms to do a group test On a film camera (full frame) the Sigma 24mm is very good, although mine is not as good as a 35mm flek for close ups. _________________ Canon A1, AV1, T70 & T90, EOS 300 and EOS300v, Chinon CE and CP-7M. Great to hear you get this lens cheap and it perform very well. I had one copy in the past but it is not as good as my Yashica ML 24mm I bought later in full open and flare resistance. At this price, it is hard to beat! _________________ https://lensfever.com/

Delighted to see this having just won one of these off eBay UK, in c/y mount, for just over 20+Postage - which was well short of my bid. Looking forward to playing with it, but it will mostly be for use on my Contax bodies as getting a 24 basically completes my outfit (barring a screaming bargain on a Zeiss 85/1.4 of course...) _________________ Canon + Contax + Minolta + Nikon + Olympus + Pentax + Yashica = Adaptall-2 |

Sigma 24f2.8 Super Wide II is a very decent lens.I currently got one mint in C/Y mount.Used to have a copule of them - MF and AF,different mounts.
On modern digital cams like Sony NEX it is a very good performer.I like it's close up facility, smal size and overall IQ.It's major flaws are excessive CAs in contrasty lighting and not enough controlled distortions.

This is an old thread, but believe it's good forum etiquette to build upon existing lens threads. I love my Sigma 24mm f/2.8 Macro--particularly its amazing close focus ability. These were all taken from 2.8 to f/8--a couple are wide open--all on Nikon Fx body. Best jt

Please forgive me to the extent this inquiry is off topic. I need your help:
Could anyone please tell me whether there is significant quality, or other, difference between the Sigma Superwide II 24mm, the lens featured here, and the older Sigma Superwide 24mm.
I have done my best already to research this matter. The older Sigma Superwide 24 mm apparently first came onto the market in 1981. The Sigma Superwide II, featured in this thread, has been around since 1986. That is a considerable number of years of separation.
But is the Sigma Superwide II really a marked improvement over the older version? I cannot find anywhere answer to this question.

Out of curiosity I would like to know the answer to your question too as I have the Mark II version.
According to Pentaxforums they say they are structurally different but optically the same.

I suspect the coatings are updated. Be mindful that those who find are those who seek. Here are a few links for starters--I would not expect to find all the answers in 1 link, but conscientious & diligent research always builds in direction of truth. Best, jt

Many thanks, guys, for helping with my up-thread question.
Darn it all, I should have thought of Pentax Forums on my own! Must have had a senior moment. Anyway, that guy's post was really great and was most helpful.
Also I want to apologize for any confusion my earlier post might have caused. I left unstated that I am interested ONLY in MF lenses. This was a mistake. But I am not attracted to the notion of buying an AF Superwide II and then running the lens in manual mode. Please chalk this up purely to personal preference.
I concede Sigma's having brought out an AF version of the Superwide II can lead to confusion. However, I'm pretty certain the Superwide II lenses which commenced in 1986 were still MF lenses. And those are the ones I specifically referenced earlier.
Anyway bottom line, it appears there is significant difference between the Superwide (MF) and the Superwide II (MF). And that is what I needed to know.

Sure
I went with the very helpful up-thread post most kindly provided me by DigiChromeEd.
Ed managed to ferret out a post by marcusBMG over on Pentax Forums. marcusBMG had owned both lenses. His post offers a fine comparison write up.
Here is a link to that page:
https://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/sigma-superwide-original-24mm-f28.html
I am all but certain the lenses compared there by marcusBMG are both MF lenses, the SuperWide II lens being the one which is the subject of this thread. |
