Which 135 rangefinder, based on your personal experience, is the most quiet?

I have only very few rangefinders: a Canonette, a non-working Agfa Silette, and my Contax G2, which has the motor, so it's noisy.

The Canonette is the quieter of the two I have but two is really a little number to make any statistics Smile so which is your quieter rangefinder?

The Konica C35 is very quiet. Just a little click when shooting...

I compared my Yashica collection with 2 Canonet 28 & QL25 ...

The quietest seems to be the Yashica Lynx 5000e, followed by Minolta Hi-Matic.

If taking into account the noise when rewinding, then I'd say Zeiss Ikon Nettar ... but it is not 135 Twisted Evil

My only rangefinder at present is the Yashica Electro 35 (thanks Andy, this camera means a lot to me). The shutter is barely audible.

Compared the the Olympus 35RC ("click") or the Minolta Hi-Matic F ("Chrrrrck"), the FED-3b goes like "CLONK". Quieter than most SLRs but clearly audible.
The quietest I have is clearly my Minolta Hi-Matic E which just produces a very silent "chrrk".

I've read that the Yashica Electro 35 has one of the quietest shutters around.
I have so many cameras to try, and this is one I definitely need to place in
the line to hear for myself.

Well I have to go with Larry on this one. The Electro 35 and in particular the GS/GT series are really very silent. In my opinion the GS/GT are better built cameras than the later GSN/GTN but not by much. It is splitting hairs maybe as the cameras are nearly identical (the only external difference being a hotshoe on GSN vs. coldshoe and PC for GS). It does seem that the GS/GT have more metal parts internally. Or maybe I should say the GSN has more plastic parts. I have had many of both opened up and so speak with some experience. The Canon QL17 is nearly as quiet and maybe has a more silent winder but not much. The ultimate street shooter if that is where this discussion is headed is still a TLR in my view. Not only silent but also you shoot with the camera on your chest away from your face. Most people do not recognize this as a shooting position. It can be very discreet. Smile

Thanks guys.
There is a series of classical music concerts to enter free and I was wondering if I could bring a camera, but noise is a big concern - I mean it's not a rock venue.

So here I think a TLR is perfect. The cropping potential with the 6x6 negative will make up for not having a longer lens. And again, the plus of not drawing attention to the camera as it can stay away from your face.

And the worst are indoor classical concerts ...

They are barely lighted, so you are using slow speeds that requires the players to be still ... and of course, the rare moments they are still are also the quietest.

A pic from last year concert during Vauban'c commemoration (Pentax SMC 135 f3.5, 1/15', 800 iso)

That's the idea ... 2007 was the 300th anniversary of Vauban's death (http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%C3%A9bastien_Le_Prestre_de_Vauban)

As Charleroi was fortified by Vauban, there were commemorations here during that year.

Another one ... (damned microphone)
