These have a ring at the base of the lens which is spun onto the camera. It a very robust system in terms of locking everything in perfect alignment but is complicated to manufacture and can be fussy to use. The nFD system (aka New FD) is a more typical bayonet system which Canon's engineers cleverly designed to fit the older cameras and be easier to manufacture. If you scan e-bay ads for FD mount lenses you will see photos of both types.
