Which vintage MF lens would you rush to buy?
Currently on my list:
- Carl Zeiss Biotar 75mm
- Carl Zeiss Ultron 50mm f1.8
- Nikon 300mm f2.8
Let me know your choice. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/149089857@N03/

That's the best idea up to now. Although, I would certainly skip the Pentacon.
Seriously, I was thinking for a while but I couldn't identify any additional lens within that budget that I really want to have and what isn't already part of my collection. Obviously I've got rid of my gear acquisition syndrome (GAS); i.e. I'm finally cured.
Nevertheless, if money wouldn't matter at all then e.g. a Leitz APO-Summicron-M 90mm/F2 ASPH or alike would come into my mind. But that's another story. _________________ Thomas Bernardy

If it were required to be spent on lenses (as opposed to other toys) it would be either a new Sony 85 1.8 or a Leica 90mm. I always feel that Leica lenses are wonderful but overpriced toys so having money I "have" to spend would give me an excuse to indulge.
If it didn't have to be lenses I would prefer to buy a Sony a6500 which are now around $1200 open box. |

Holy cow! Is this a case of acute GAS?
The most expensive vintage lens I have is the Trioplan, bought for around 500$. All other lenses are under 250$, many under 100$. Overall I have some 30 lenses (including my old Nikon F lenses) and I think I am not going to buy anymore (maybe one of those few gems I mentioned).
My attitude towards vintage glas is: modern lenses are better in any regard, period. Buy an old lens only if it gives some artistic value a modern lens cannot give. Jupiter, Meyer Optik and Carl zeiss jena lenses have given me what I was looking for.
Cheers. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/149089857@N03/ |

I already spend well over a $1000 a month on lenses. |
wondering about focus? How long? Can you give us overview/survey of "collection"? |
Focus? It's shifting - for example, I used to be heavily into Minolta, but then I sold most of it. There's still 50/1.4's and 28/2.8's (all of them), 35/1.8, 24/2.8, 58/1.2, 85/1.7, a few 100/2.5's, and may be something else on the long side. I used to have a huge macro collection, but ever since I got a hold of 100/2.8 L my interest in those waned - so gone are Bokinas, Kirons, Tamrons, Vivitars and their cousins (real macros and close focus lenses) and almost all brand name macros I used to own. I then got into Canon and picked up a decent set and that's what I shoot most of the time now when I shoot mirrorless. I also have a solid collection of manual nikkors for my Nikon cameras, although there's nothing outrageously expensive there. But significant portion of my buying is just trying new lenses, like the time I got interested in fast Soligors and got most of them. I played with them for a while and then they were gone. So, stuff comes and stuff goes.

Holy cow! Is this a case of acute GAS? |
Some of it is GAS, sure, as the net total of the lenses I own increases, but much of it is bought, tried and passed along. Like a few weeks back, when I saw a pile of stuff that contained an uncommon 21mm lens. I have no real interest in vintage ultrawides, but when ever I will get a chance at another one? For $200 below its going price? So, I will play with it for a while, probably run it against a few similar lenses I do have and then the whole set will be converted into something else - may be a7II or high end m43, if I ever decide which way I lean. |

Take another vacation with my wonderful spouse, as I have more than enough lenses... |
Har !!! I'm betting that you think she likely reads this forum once in a while, Klaus . . .
|
Oh no, she is not into such stuff, luckily enough. But still, I'd let all that go in a split second for a special person _________________ Klaus - Admin
