wondering about focus? How long? Can you give us overview/survey of "collection"? |
Focus? It's shifting - for example, I used to be heavily into Minolta, but then I sold most of it. There's still 50/1.4's and 28/2.8's (all of them), 35/1.8, 24/2.8, 58/1.2, 85/1.7, a few 100/2.5's, and may be something else on the long side. I used to have a huge macro collection, but ever since I got a hold of 100/2.8 L my interest in those waned - so gone are Bokinas, Kirons, Tamrons, Vivitars and their cousins (real macros and close focus lenses) and almost all brand name macros I used to own. I then got into Canon and picked up a decent set and that's what I shoot most of the time now when I shoot mirrorless. I also have a solid collection of manual nikkors for my Nikon cameras, although there's nothing outrageously expensive there. But significant portion of my buying is just trying new lenses, like the time I got interested in fast Soligors and got most of them. I played with them for a while and then they were gone. So, stuff comes and stuff goes.

Holy cow! Is this a case of acute GAS? |
Some of it is GAS, sure, as the net total of the lenses I own increases, but much of it is bought, tried and passed along. Like a few weeks back, when I saw a pile of stuff that contained an uncommon 21mm lens. I have no real interest in vintage ultrawides, but when ever I will get a chance at another one? For $200 below its going price? So, I will play with it for a while, probably run it against a few similar lenses I do have and then the whole set will be converted into something else - may be a7II or high end m43, if I ever decide which way I lean. |
Thanks. The fact you also resell a significant number each month makes the $1000 figure less shocking, because that much money would buy some really exellent high-end glass! _________________ ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮ like attracts like! ☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮☮

I may be crazy with the amount of gear I have on hand, but not with the balance sheet. As to the really expensive stuff, sure, I have some, but I believe a lens like that should serve a purpose. Like, can I swing a Planar 85/1.2 or 85mm Otus? Yes, most likely. But what's the point of doing it if I can't make my kids sit straight in front of the cameras for even a minute? |

I'd love the Minolta AF 1.4/85 and 2.8/20 for my a850.
Coincidentally, I just bought two Sigma AF lenses for my a850 that are pretty good alternatives for the price - a 2.8/90 macro and a 3.5/18, they cost me under 100ukp for the pair.
The 2.8/90 is great, lovely bokeh, sharp as a tack, very little CA, if you see one, it's well worth grabbing.
The 3.5/18 is pretty good too, it has a fair bit of barrel distortion and vignetting, but both are very easily corrected in photoshop, it also has 2-3px purple fringing on the edges, but again, that is easily corrected. Overall, it's a good lens, but I bought it as a stopgap until I find something better.
I haven't done anything to correct the distortion or vignetting here, just a quick test shot:
100% crop, I forget what aperture, f5.6 I think, it's certainly sharp in the central region:

Well, first of all, because I don't speak french, I wasn't able to puzzle out how to load the concluded auction in your first link. But the lenses in the second and third link I was able to view. I dunno about 5000 Euros for that lens. It is an early FD because it has the chrome bayonet ring in front. It shows "AL" instead of "Aspherical" and has a gold ring. Neither of these have I seen before. So I guess it must be a very rare lens. But 5000 Euros? Yeah, I think he's smoking something.
BTW, I wish that 598 Euro price could be found on US eBay. I took a look there earlier and found several of these lenses. They ranged in prices from about $1,000 to over $1,400. Whew. About a year ago, they were selling for about $600. So I think these prices involve a considerable amount of wishful thinking. But I dunno -- I haven't checked any closed auctions yet, so maybe they've increased that much. But if that's the case, I'm thinking I can probably buy a nFD 50mm f/1.2 L for less. _________________ Michael

Recently an auction here in Switzerland which contained both the FD 1.2/55mm Asph and the FD 1.2/85mm Asph was ending for about CHF 850.--.

It could be real, and frankly, if you have a super-rare lens like that it may make sense to hold out and wait for a stupid rich collector. It also makes sense on another level - purposely overpricing it drives the traffic to his store. |
