I picked this thing up in the trash items bin of a local camera store - along with a couple of broken lenses. But this wasn't broken, it was just considered worthless.

"Rexar" is obviously just a trade name. I have no idea who made this, but as usual I suspect Cosina. If anybody has a clue, please let me know. Its a very ordinary Pentax K lens with no "A" mode, so its probably from the 1970's. Its an all-metal, made in Japan, reasonably well built piece in perfect condition. It focuses down to 1ft/.3m, which is reasonable for what it is, but its no macro, or even a Sigma Mini-wide.

For all its obscurity, its quite a decent lens. I don't think I could expect better from my Takumar 28/3.5, or at least I think I would have a hard time detecting a difference. The only significant fault this thing has is a strong tendency to flare, so it needs a good hood and some care to avoid sunlight on the lens.

How did you think to pick that up? Most of us would have ignored it, so there is a message there somewhere Smile Smile Smile

Fantastic story. You could make a web page about it, and how silly is our consumistic society that trashes a good thing without even having tried it.

No matter the usefulness of this lens, I would always keep it just as an example to prove the point!

Plus, once you have saved a lens, you are responsible for it forever Razz

I think your Rexar is a Cimko, Luis. I have a Cimko 28/2.8 in Canon FD mount that looks like a ringer for your Rexar. I'll dig it out and post a picture of it. The diamond shaped reference mark was the tipoff. I also have an older Cima 135/2.8, labeled Cimako, that has this diamond shaped mark.

Here's a quick and dirty image from the Cimko 28. Unfavorable lighting. The lens seems to do well. I haven't done anything critical with it.
