Question Question Question
How can this work? Surely without infinity!

You're right. Just a slight consequence the seller just happens to forget to mention..

But for macro work it is a decent solution, less chance on vignetting than with similar adapters with optics for infinity, with the lens hacked out. Convenient to use with bellows for instance.

And for portrait ... and any other purposes when you not reach infinity distance.

I can't find mine just now, but it is fairly thick, about 10mm. So only with longer focal lengths will you get into portrait distance, not with a 50mm lens. Unless the portraits are of rather small subjects..

I never or rare do portrait with 50mm lens better to keep distance beetwen me and modell. With this adapter I guess a 100 or 135mm lens can be perfect portrait lens. Minolta MD 100 or 105mm are really fine lenses.

It depends on the register distance and focal lenght. If the combination of the too is too big, you will not be able to reach a long enough distance to make portrait work.

The adapter is 9mm thick, Canon EF/Minolta SR register difference is 0,5mm, so a total of 9,5mm extension. I just tested it quickly, maximum focus distances:

85mm - 80cm
100mm - 125cm
135mm - 150cm

These are not very exact measurements, I may be off a couple of cm.

On a 1.6 cropfactor camera a 135mm at maximum focus distance fills around 18x27cm, so it is a bit tight for portraiture, YMMV.

I agree, the Minolta 100mm and 135mm lenses are very nice.
