Nice, but a little more contrast in 2 & 3 would suit me better. Is this due to the lens, the camera settings or to post-processing?

It's the lens (single coating)

In #3 it would be more useful a bit of fill flash though.

Interesting problem, keeping small DOF in bright light.

Fill flash just makes the problem worse.

Neutral density filter/polarizer ?

The only problem could be the synch time.

Anyway using the sunny 16 rule to go down to f2 you'd have to use 1/8000. My e410 goes up till 1/4000 but if you see the photo the sun is almost vertical putting the model face and body in shade so I think you can step down 1-2 EV blowing out a bit the blurred background but keeping the model well lit. This keeping an f2, but I think you can also goes up to 2.8 without a much greater DOF and using a slower time. Other choice could be to wait for some of the clouds you can see in the sky to partially cover the sun, you rely a lot on the wind though.

Thanks VGR - I especially like#1. Mid-day sunshine is always a @@@ for any lens.
