Well, we talked about Helios 44Ms, the clone of CZJ Biotar 2/58. But when did we mention about the Biotar itself.
I have recently acquired a silver version of Biotar 2/58 with red T. According to Attila, this lens was made in 1950s (sn 3595924). Shocked

My verdict on this lens is mixed. Close up is very good. But I cannot focus on infinity with this lens. Crying or Very sad
Something is very wrong Confused . Its focus ring needs to be adjusted to turn just a little bit more ..
Does anyone know how to fix it?

Hello esrods,

Yes and it's very easy. I have the same lens and here is a quick example of infinity focus with the lens.

Quick Snap this AM:

100% infinity crop

You need to purchase the cheapest aluminum M42-EOS adapter possible.

They have a very thin flange and allow you to turn the lens about 1/4 to 1/3 farther in the adapter allowing the lens to come closer to the sensor.

You will actually go beyond infinity (I like that) so you do need to pay attention when focusing to infinity. It works perfectly

Cheers

Marvellous pictures. Even without infinity you can do some great work with a lens of this caliber.

Thank you all for complimentary comments. The Biotar 2/58 is a keeper.

Lulalake, thanks heaps. The culprit was the adapter Evil or Very Mad . When I removed the adapter I realised the lens has abnormally long mount.
Also I realised my AF confirm adapter is a flenged one Embarassed . The lens never sat deeply enough to be able to focuss on infinity. I changed to another adapter and it works Laughing . The flanged adapter is good for some lenses eg Flek 4/20 and Zebra Tessar but not good for SMC 1.4/50 and this Biotar Evil or Very Mad
Now I don't have to dismentle the lens. But it's good to know how to adjust the focuss range. Thanks Poilu Wink

See the mount protruding out.

Does not sit deep enough

INFINITE FOCUSS Laughing

Glad to help. The lens is just too good to not have infinity!
