First off, thank you Attila for sending me a lense that was everything you said it was.

I put the CZJ flektogon 35mm f/2.4 on the 40D. I took 1 picture inside to see if everything would work. It did. I went out side and took a quick snapshot of some flowers that my wife is getting to plant to see what quality of picture I would get

f/5.6
.

I came inside and took a quick ambient light shot of my best friend and constant companion Maxwell at f/2.4. I keep an old comforter on his couch when no one is home to protect it, so forgive the looks.

Your Flektography is beautiful, Ron! Love the nice dog!

I love the dog picture, exquisite "half-tones".

Ron,

Photos are not sharp at all and the color rendition is horrid. You should send that lens to me! Very Happy

Very nice! Now we get to see some manual focus work from you. I bet it will quite some time before an AF lens gets mounted again.

Dialing in your own focus is a lot more fun than using AF lenses. Why leave
all the fun to a microprocessor and electric motor?

Larry, please understand that I was trying for no composition with these shots, just a couple of shots to see what the lense was capable of.
I say this because I have seen the beautiful shots that you post.
Maxwell is my best friend in the world, thank you. I would give my life for this guy.

Don't pull that crap with me Mike . You are not getting my new lense. No way.

Well Bill, I am very happy with the lenses that I have.

I must admit that I am very surprised at how easy this M/F lense is to focus, even for these 65 year old eyes.

Now for some advice.
My most used lenses are my 17- 55 f/2.8 IS and my 70-200 f/2.8 IS, so what should I be considering next in a quality M/F lense to get into my most used area?

A nice lens in the 100-135mm range would be nice, I am almost always going to recommend Nikon, Tamron makes nice glass. Some of the Soviet glass is a great value. Quality German glass will be costly, but well worth it. I still find it hard to settle on one brand over another, almost all seem to have some desirable characteristics.

I suggest the Jupiter 37A, 37AM, for your next lens. Inexpensive, resolves
nicely, and great colors, good for portraits, too. Orio has some shots that
will knock your socks off.

Thankyougoodnight,

Bill

It's very tough to replace those two lenses with MF lenses ( Cool shoot me!)
I have 24-105L IS and 70-200 4L/IS and I rackon Carl Zeiss lenses are the only ones that come close Rolling Eyes to these.
Of the ones I have I recommend the following:
Contax Zeiss 2.8/28 (or Flek 4/20)
Contax Zeiss 2.8/35 (or Flek 35)
CZJ Pancolar 1.8/50
CZJ Sonnar 3.5/135
Jupiter 21M 4/200 (Not quite CZ but I like it)

By the way, don't you love the colour of Flek !

Nikkor 105/2.5 AIS. Unbeatable lens (except for the nikkor 105/1.Cool. Relatively cheap still because so many are out there. Smile Smile

Haha! You been bitten Ron! The Flek 35 is a very bad lens to start off with if you want to avoid getting addicted Smile

To advise on what next, a lot depends on what you're prepared to pay. I've been determined to keep within a fairly tight budget, so Distagons and Biogons are a pipe dream for me. But there are some great M42 lenses still within my price range. If you're in the same bracket, this is what I'd suggest:

20mm - CZJ 4/20, 2.8/20
28mm - Vivitar 2.8/28, Super Tak 3.5/28
50mm - Pancolar 1.8/50, Super Tak 1.4/50, Industar-50-2
85mm - Super Tak 1.9/85, Jupiter 9 or Helios 40 if you can lift one.
100mm - Tak 100 or 105
135mm - CZJ 3.5/35, Jupiter 37A, Tair 11 or Tak 3.5/135
200mm - Jupiter 21, Pentacon 4/200

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

I have been very busy today.
My daughter is graduating from college this weekend (pre-med).
She is an honor student so today was taken up with honors college activities.
Tomorrow is regular graduation.
In August she will be off to 4 years of grad school. I will miss my baby.

Anyway, next week I will be back to playing photographer.
