Portrait with a manually focused AF (sorry!) lens

I have been busy this week, photographing a portrait for an actor. I really wanted to use a Jupiter 9 but the area we set up in was quite dark, and I wanted to shoot at f11 and I couldn't see him very well after I stopped down! So the AF lens had to come out Sad

I like this one but maybe it is a bit underexposed?

Not really. Perhaps a tiny bit but it's not the real problem, which is more in the darker ares. The image looks a bit flat. It is tonally nice but it lacks strenght and contrast in the darker areas.
I tried a little Photoshop edit

but to really solve the issue, you should replace the lights in the scene.
The way it is placed now, the fill light lightens too much the left edge of the face, and does not fill enough where it's really needed (the shadow of the nose).
On the other hand, the main light is perhaps too central. This flattens the line features on the face, which appear only in the left side.

You should place the main light more lateral (more to the side), and you should place the fill light more central, and also set it lower (less luminous).

This of course is my personal opinion!

Cheers for the tips, Orio! I'll have another go later this week...
