This is the second Oly 35RC rangefinder that I had to clean and do
lightseals. I have yet a 3rd one that needs much the same. You've seen
these scenes before, but I rather like these versions better. This is cheap
Arista ISO 400 color film scanned at 2400dpi:

Oly rangefinders have very good quality.

Thanks, Orio and Attila, you are gracious hosts! I'm sure seeing the same
subject matter is about as exciting as a lumbar puncture, but some of us
need constant ego gratification! Laughing Actually, I have no ego after seeing
Orio's makro-planar apple blossom. Shocked

Here's a vertical of the first shot, like opinions, critiques, pink slip, whatever:

and my cat, in the messy enclosed back porch:

and one more, the rest are trees with flowers with crappy light and profiles
I took of the computer screen to upload to Noise Ninja Pro.

You sure have the scanner humming along nicely, Bill!

I really find the last one very sharp, even though it is not a high contrast shot. I think that your photography would be good even if you shot a bunch of industrial waste! Shocked

Thanks, Larry, too kind, and I probably won't ever shoot pics of industrial
waste, but thanks for the vote of confidence! Laughing

Looking forward to seeing some more of your scans!

very nice scans Bill.
this oly is superb optically
After the sigma series this one shine for true colors, dynamic range and full details.
scans are quite good about grain for a cheap 400 iso; for color & range super

Amazing combination - and you really seem to have a handle on the scanner. They are all excellent examples and I am not too surprised at the Oly results having been an Oly user for many years.

Thanks, Poilu and Patrick! The Oly 35RC is my favorite rangefinder for
being compact, and having that Zuiko lens! I now have two fully functioning
cams, with new lightseals and batteries.

Poilu, agree, these shots are much better to me than the ones taken with
the Sigma. In some ways I like these better than the ones taken with
the Yashica ML lens. Color was no problem with these scans. There is some
slight flare in the alley shot, and I've now ordered the OEM hood for the
35RC from GB ($27 delivered).

Thanks again

Bill

It seems to me that both the pictures and the scans show an impeccable technical quality.

Definitely no need for the "pink slip". Well done!

Congrats, Bill, nice work.
Even being a cheap film, you've got very fine results!.
Also this remind me that my Oly is waiting for reseal since long...
Your cat seems to be quite fierce... or maybe it doesn't like to get pictured...

Jes.

Orio, Carsten, and Jes, thanks for your kind comments. I've made up my
mind to do more film this summer, and find this to be a lot of fun!

Jes and Carsten, hope to see some scans from your Oly 35RCs!

Thanks again,

Bill

Beautiful Bill. I've never felt truly at home with a rangefinder, not being able to see through the lens, but these shots wipe out any doubts. I especially like the ones of the river and the paved terrace, what a nice place. Poor old moggy looks a bit fed up though - is that shot a bit on the grainy side?

PostPosted: Sun Apr 27, 2008 10:04 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Peter, thanks for your comments. Yes, the cat was waiting as fast as he
could to be fed, explaining his expression! Laughing Does look a tad grainy, but
this is that cheap Arista ISO 400, and I thought it would be even worse than
this. It might've been exacerbated by the strong cross light from the windows
to the left in the picture, dunno.

Thanks again,

Bill

Very nice shots Bill, and great scanning.

I'm still looking for a cheap Oly XA, but only seem to find XA1's and XA2's.
