Lovely shots Alex from this humble (and cheap) Hexanon.
I love Hexanon lenses but this one is usually passed by as its not as sharp as its 1.7/50 cousin. But for portraits, the 52mm has the advantage. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

To say frankly, my personal experience with several samples of both kinds left me in the completely opposite opinion. _________________ "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept" - © H. Cartier Bresson |

That's interesting, as the 1.7/50 is supposed to be one of the sharpest 50's out there. Judging by your shots, I must use my 52mm more often. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

I would if I had a 1.7/50. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |

Then don’t be sorry for its absence. _________________ "Sharpness is a bourgeois concept" - © H. Cartier Bresson |

I agree with Alex; the 52/1.8 is (at least) as sharp as the 50/1.7. It also has smoother bokeh than the 1.7.
I owned both of them (sold the 1.7 as it costs more, the 52/1.8 is hard to sell) and shot some boring A-B tests with them, wide open and at 5.6.
Here's one of the shots, click it to get to my flickr to see the others in full res:

I'm not, but it would be interesting to see a side by-side comparison nonetheless. _________________ "I've got a Nikon camera, I like to take a photograph" - Paul Simon |
