Pawn Shop Find

Excuse the camera phone shot, a sin I know, but wanted to share my pawn shop find today. Stuck at work so I went to pawn shop nearby. Nothing good in the case, then I noticed a plastic bin full of lenses and caps etc. What was waiting for me at the bottom of a bunch of medicore/hazed and broken 80-200s, concealed under a hama lens cap?

This guy:

I know people often pick these up cheap and this one wasn't bad considering the glass is pristine. The Bay seems to be full of either problematic versions or the price is more than I would pay.

Had the Konica back cap too! $30 is a good price for it methinks. The barrel would be in pristine shape too, if it weren't for the stupid sticky tag they had on it. Hexanons generally hold up cosmetically really well, I think I just need to hit the barrel with a toothbrush to remove the residue of the tag.

Windex without ammonia works well for sticker residue, if that doesn't work, I've used mineral spirits on a rag, then clean the residue.
The lens looks to be in good shape, the price seems good too.
Congrats.

Thanks Lightshow. If I remember from reading your posts, I think you have a lot of Hexanons. If so I would love to chat with you more about them. I just started collecting them recently but already have the 28/3.5, 52/1.8, 50/1.4, 50/1.7, 135/3.2, 200/4 and the 100/2.8.

I picked up the 80-200 a week back but it has what looks like fungus. It only cost me $9, but the results even with the fungus are outstanding. I am really interested to see what that lens could do in better shape.

Great find. Paintbrush cleaner removes label glue an is harmless to the glass or barrel of the lens. I use a cotton bud or fine paint brush to apply it.

I've bought this lens for a bit less than this price in euro's including shipping, mine looks great and makes great pictures. Only one slight problem: there's something rattling inside. The previous owner might have used lock tight on the screws because even with my strength I can't seem to open it without destroying the screws.
30$ is a good buy considering the prices it's fetching on crookbay.

You have about as many as I do, I haven't been too impressed with most of the Konicas, bad copies? User error? Not sure yet, I've only shot them on my NEX-7(-28/3.5 AR EE -50/1.7 AR AE -52/1.8 AR EE -57/1.4 AR EE -100/2.8 AR EE) the the 50 & 57 giving the best results.
I have since bought the AR AE 55/3.5 macro, and the AR EE 21/4 which I'll post some shots from my A7r in a new thread. They both look to be dry good.

I've used the same lenses on the same camera and the lenses tested by you are (except the 50/1.7) not the best konica has to offer. I love the 57/1.4 (soft @1.4 but great colours) the 50 version is better and the 57/1.2 is my favourite(colours and bokeh are just awesome) . The 100mm lens, I've haven't test it alot but the 85mm has the same 'problem' I don't like the colours or the bokeh. I'm going to test the 85mm the next couple of weeks (sony a7). The 24mm is great on the Nex 7 not so great on the A7, the 28mm 3.5 never bought it's had the 24mm but now have the 28mm UC (28 UC on A7 =WOW) Konica 40mm bought it a couple of weeks ago haven't test it a lot yet but seems to perform good.
Best konica's (or lenses in general) in my opinion: 57/1.2, 50/1.4, 28/1.8UC 35/2 (135/2.5 haven't test it yet on the A7 and the 24/2.8 on APS-C)

40mm 1.8

good one and congrats, the 40/1.8 was called "little razor" in China for its sharpness, but the price is really a nightmare recently... Crying or Very sad

I took a few shots, the 40 is indeed a little razor. Will post samples tomorrow when work gives me a chance to breathe. The Hexanon I am blown away by is the 135 3.2. It's incredibly sharp even on the A7.
