To my knowledge -- no. There was some discussion on dpreview. Are there any tests/user reports already?

It was mentioned in another thread here.
It was inevitable that this would happen eventually, at half the price of the original it will be tempting but lets hope it's not half as good.

Half the price?

The adapter is available in China P&E 2013. Price is 850 RMB which is about $140.

The promotional price on the exhibition booth is 600RMB($100). I think this may not be available outside China as they are focus on China market only but they may able be purchase from other resellers.

In the link above the price of this Lens Turbo™ is $239, the price of the Speed Booster™ is $449 for most mounts.

That's near enough half price for me.

PMSL reading the arguments in the comments below the article Laughing

Few things I would like to add:

1.The selling price in China may not be the same for other place.
2.Some lens may not work on the adapter due to some mechanical issues.
3.There will be around 0.3 to 0.4EV boost with this reducer.
3.This focal reduce is designed to compensate with the crop factor of the sensor. One who like use lens at wide open may find the photo become more soft after using this adapter.

I think that's another version, not the Lens Turbo™. So there's 3 varieties out there now, no doubt more will come along in time.

Impressive. 15 sold at around 200$. For a no name, non advertised product.

Metabones should have started with Nikon F and Canon FD in the first place instead of EOS and Alpa (!).

Pay attention: few months ago i bought - from the same seller - a split focus screen for EOS MkII that's so dark, that 's nearby unusable.
I remember well 'cause i choose DHL Express mail for fast delivery, and the guy took 3 days or more to send the screen...

Cheers,

Renato

I think it is may be the same adapter judge from the photos in the auction. They have show similar lens coating and share same mechanical parts. The only concern is the quality check of these no name adapter as they may be the one who did not pass the QC. I think some of the member here already bought it so let use see if there is any QC problem.

I looked through the seller's negative/neutral feedback but couldn't see any reference to this adapter. It would be good if it works as described without any QC issues, I guess only time will tell. Smile

Yes. I am curios about the source of these "no name" adapter. The official shop have not put them on sell so they may comes from other source.

I am very happy about this Smile
sure I will wait for user reports, and quality control of 'leaked' units most likely is an issue, but I have all the hope that the 'authentic' Lens Turbo will be of quality comparable to the Speed Booster, why shouldn't it be, after all it's producer Zhongyi has been making decent Mitakon lenses and Metabones just as well is a company based in Hongkong most likely producing in south China too.

PostPosted: Sun Apr 28, 2013 3:25 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

I am waiting for user reports with interest, but I am not hugely optimistic. The reason is the quality of Chinese mount adapters. Yeah they are fine, and I am using them of course, but they are $10-20 fine. If I look at them really critically, infinity is all over the place, some of them hold the lens quite loosely, some of them have pins that need little filing to work properly and so on. That kind of sloppy manufacturing is tolerable on cheap tubing, but it's definitely not OK on something costing $100+ and containing optics...

Well, "cheap" always comes at a price.

PostPosted: Sun Apr 28, 2013 1:51 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I think the inevitable conclusion about these will be the same as that about the cheap Chinese adapters such as FD-EOS or M42-Nikon with glass elements - they work but they turn all your lenses into soft crappy ones.

I really fail to see what's exciting about a product that will almost certainly be an IQ destroyer.

Now let us join forces and use knowledge of this:

and experience of that:

and don't throw money away but rather find solution on our own. The product isn't worth more then 50$ true?

Waste of time. I just can't understand why putting a cheap piece of glass behind a lens appeals to people, you will just end up reducing the quality of all your lenses to that of the cheap piece of glass.

Except I hope people realize that Metabones is a Chinese company, and not spout nonsense about cheap Chinese copies.
