Hi there.

Helios works just fine with my E-510 and live view. Unfortunately I do not use live view frequently....

Hi, I have a Lumix L1 too - Despite the 'Leica' (read Pansonic?) lens, I use mine far more with my adaptall Tamron SP's (with the Pentax mount, and a 4/3 to Pentax KA adapter) or with my growing collection of M42 lenses and a 4/3 to M42 adapter.

I also use the live view a fair amount for Lanscapes where it takes me back somewhat to using a TLR and seeing the picture on a screen which I find aids composition?

I am very cautious about the big names on such mass commercial products.
I believe that Leica has not much to do with the Lumix lenses except putting the brand name of it for marketing purpose. Same with the Zeiss lenses in Nokia cellphones. Commercial contracts, not much different than paying for a TV ads campaign. A way to market photo/cell phones to the segment of market that is sensible to lens brand names. I'd bet that all these are really Japanese consumer products made in Korea or China without any meaning at all of the Leica and Zeiss names on them.

I have a Lumix digicam and while I know that the lens is not made by Leica (I am not that silly), they must have been involved somehow. The quality of this lens is outstanding (for a digicam).

Things usually are not black or white. I don't thing that Leica does the lenses, but either participates somehow in the design or at least asks for a certain level of quality to put its name on it.

I have a Panasonic L1 and enjoy using it with various MF lenses - mainly M42 and Nikon. In general I enjoy this apsect of this camera but would simply advise that focussing with the L1 can be problematic with MF lenses. The focus confirmation works, but it is touchy - a fraction of a millimetre turn of the lens can mean the difference between the confirmation light coming on and then going off again. Also it does not function well in dim conditions. In short, getting proper manual focus is a bit of a roll of the dice.

I have a nikon D70s on which I use MF nikon lenses and while its a bit constrained because of the lack of metering it is much easier to manually focus.

Having said this I would not disscourage you from doing it - just be aware that you may struggle, especially if you are using the Helios wide open.

The other thing I have noticed is that for some reason the exposure system can struggle a bit when using MF lenses - it has a tendency to over expose for some reason, especially when a fast lens is in use and is being shot wide open. This requires a bit of experimentation to get right.
