..hello..

..long time reader, seldom poster here..

..nevertheless i have to be really thankful to this forum as i got most of the information i needed to set up a nice collection of lenses from here..

..i managed to collect a nice zeiss/contax "hollywood" 28 mm and also zuiko 21/2, 24/2, 35/2, 40/2, 50/2 macro, 90/2 macro and 135/2,8, a industar 69 28/2,8, a mir 35/2 and a helios 44-3 58/2 thx to the infos i found here..

..BUT i also highly appreciate the pictures i get with the cheap fujian 35/1,7 c-mount lens and my nex-7..
..in case you dont know the lens, this is one of the according threads..

http://forum.mflenses.com/fujian-35mm-f-1-7-t37181.html

..as i am planning to buy one of the upcoming full frame "nexes" (seems they are named alphas, but anyway) i am looking for a lens that gives me a similar rendering on full frame..

..with the fujian i especially like its imperfections..if printed largely it is possible to even get the rendering comparable to some of the old petzval lenses on large format which suits the kind of photography i do perfectly especially as it is blurry in the edges and sharp in the center, swirls a bit and so on..

..the industar 69 is in about the same direction as the fujian, but on the nex-7 you get a heavy magenta cast, its just enough sharp but not more and the color rendering is very different..not bad at all, but especially when converted to b&w or sepia the fujian really delivers..this all can of course be done in post, but i prefer to get what i see (or see what i get..Smile..) when shooting..

..can you give me some suggestions regarding lenses that eventually render similarly to the fujian but do fill a full frame image circle..?

..(even if i really change to full format, my nex-7 will stay for many reasons, but being able to do similar things on full frame would be nice..and there is so much knowldge here..Smile..)..

..thx in advance, erik..

Considering most of the time lens manufacturers were trying to work out "kinks" like what you find would find on the Fuji since the since the inception of the petzvel lens, I would look toward the early 90's lenses for similar characteristics on a full frame digital sensor.

My knowledge isn't vast but you have a lovely collection of lenses:)

Yes it's the uncorrected aberrations.

Maybe there is a 50mm Fujian? That would probably cover FF.

I'm not familiar with how the Fujian renders, but maybe a triplet like the Meritar and Trioplan 2.9/50s would be similar?

If I remember correctly the Fujian 50 doesn't really cover APS-C.
Industar 69 like the Pen F are a half frame design and will not cover FF.

Industar 61
Lomo has some FF lenses that may do the trick.
SLR magic has some cheap lenses.
Old lenses, pre WW1.

A lens "lens turbo" (/"speed booster") with Helios 44 or chinese plastic "Lomo" lenses on FF NEX might produce the effect you're looking for.
A little expensive though

+1 it has less coverage than the 35mm

..thx a lot for the suggestions so far..

..from my own experience..my fujian 50 does cover aps-c but is a rather "dull" lens regarding the aberrations i am looking for..Smile..its not bad as a fast 50, but it has remarkably less character than the 35 (but is also not as good as any average 50 mm lens)..

@ layer-cake: any particular suggestion regarding the 90s lenses..?..the collection took me a lot of patience..Smile..which i do not have plenty of..Smile..Smile..problem is..it never stops itching..*damn addiction*..Smile..

@ iangreenhalgh1: i think a triplet is a good way to go..i had a look at some meritars..maybe i should have a look at one of the lenses for folder cameras, but they are calculated for a much bigger image circle..the fujian works as it does because with aps-c you are on the outer rim of the possible image circle with all its aberrations..did you have a particular meritar in mind..?

@ lightshow: industar 69 is quite funny to use, but gives a rather strong magenta cast on the nex-7 (yes, there is cornerfix, but if i dont neeed to use it, i am fine with it..Smile..) and overall in the center seems to be worse than the fujian..but i will have to play with it more..any hints regarding pre-ww1 lenses..?..(i have a dallmeyer pentac 8"/f2,9 (a bit like the aero ektar) for my speed graphic, but its not a useable option..Smile..)..

@ forenseil: im am looking forward to seeing the helios in ff-action..Smile..do you think that..uh..i am even afraid to say this name here in this forum..Smile..do you think that maybe a lensbaby could be what i am looking for..?..any experiences with it..?..i did some research and i know its a sacrilege, but the sweet 35 and the double glass optics on a composer doesnt look that bad..but of course i would prefer a *real* lens..Smile..

..thx a lot so far..

Take any standard double gauss lens (like Helios-44) and apply blur vignetting to photos...
Wink Rolling Eyes

P.S. a simple meniscus will also do...

Found this, which seems pretty cool, not as wide as you were looking for but think might be worth looking into:

I found the centre on my I69 to be quite good, and stopping down does help the outer areas, it works best as a B&W lens on the 7.
Re: pre WW1 lenses, Kodak folders....
This site looks to be a good resource.

@ orio: of course you are right..and this seems to be one of the routes to go..but i so much prefer to have the results ooc and just have to tweak contrast and exposure a bit..btw your posts were the ones that led me to buy a distagon hollywood..which really is a worldclass lens..Smile..

@ layer-cake: saw this one before..looks good, BUT i dont know what to think of it..i think its rather expensive for what it is, but lomo also has to live..Smile..and for my personal appliances i am afraid 85 mm is a bit too long..anyways..thx for pointing at it..

@ lightshow: you are right..industar 69 is funny and quite ok, but on the nex 7 really only useable in black and white if you dont want to tinker with cornerfix..thx a lot for the link..i knew this guy from another forum..but didnt know about his site..which i have to go through next..there are lots of information in it..

..i will try to post a few photos during the nest days to illustrate which look i am trying to achieve..

..thx a lot, erik..

..so i uploaded some examples which are by no means meant to be great art, but i just played around with the fujian in pic 1 and 3 during one of my trips to beautiful greece..Smile..

..the fujian at its best (for me..Smile..)..

..this one was done in post with some tilt/shift-effects and some (rather light) blur and i think you can see the difference..i know it could be done better, but the athmosphere of the photo will still be different..(it was shot with the sony 16-50 pz Embarassed ..)

..and again the fujian..please also note the rather "interesting" colors..(there is very, very little post processing here)..

[/img]

..now my aim is to achieve similar results with an upcoming full frame camera (i do print some of my pics and also like to print them big and of course rendering on full frame is different in many ways..as is large format..doing photo 1 in large format with a f2,9 lens gives a completely different picture even in comparable focal lenghts)..

..thx for watching..
