Pros - little distortion, great colours, seems relatively sharp at least in center of my crop sensor

Cons - I've never seen anything flare like this, the first consideration of every shot is to get the sun at your back.

Actually having a lens that produces dramatic flare on command might prove interesting, too bad I don't drive a nicer car Laughing

I need to improvise a hood, but more then that I need to practice composition with this focal length.

1) wasn't kidding about the flare

2) stereotypical WA looking up at the trees shot

3)

Interesting lens, I'm looking for something around this wide.

I would try a Cokin P Series lens hood, I use one a lot and they are useful and adaptable. And being square they should not vignette, and being cheap you can hack them to shape if they do.

as ever there are Chinese knock offs all over ebay, and these kits are cheap!

Yes it's fun collecting flares with MIR. Some of mine:

A lens I really enjoy using.
Also because of its flare.

Love the artistic use of flares. Absolutely wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Intentional flare is sometimes interesting. The Mir 20m does have a tendency to create annoying blue-corners though because of the angle of the light source. Others have reported this as well: http://forum.mflenses.com/mir-mc-20m-20-3-5-and-blue-corners-t11191.html Sometimes it can be difficult to correct for.

While trying to decide if I should bid on the lens I did a Google image search for samples, and your set "Florida with Stasia" is quite high on the page Cool

I knew the lens would be a fun challenge, kind of a wrestling match between subject, slightly whacky perspective, and flare.

More test shots.

1) Flare as part of composition

2) Such an interesting perspective on commonplace things. And the colours!

Once I get the hang of this lens a little I'll try it on film, should be fun.

Apple blossoms:

My composition isn't great here but I think there's potential for nice closeups, I'll keep trying.

Since I'm a big fan of this lens, I will post a couple of bugs. Hope you don't mind.

not perfect on the photographer's side, but the lens did its job quite nicely:

And, obviously, some flare:

(the little spots visible in the flare were dust specks, already removed btw)

Both are nice. Especially applaudable is wide-open aperture use.

Not at all!

I like the perspective of the spider shot, would look quite different with a typical 50mm or 100mm macro lens.
