FD mount portrait lens?

Hi, does anyone have a recommendation for such an item? I've looked at prices for the 85mm 1.2 and quickly looked away again, the only ones I see are over £600 and the cheapest seem to be in Japan which would then incur a couple of hundred more in tax, duty and handling fee. Some of these older cine lenses look good to my eyes but again, seem to command stratospheric prices.
Am I wishing for the impossible?
Cheers.
Steve

The price you quoted sounds about right, (for a "buy it now" item anyway). If you are vigilant, persistent and quick then you should be able to find something cheaper.

Good luck

Smile

How do you use FD lens on EOS camera? With the glass adapter or have you changed the mounts?

Trifox can magically turn FD to EF Smile Worked for me perfectly! But you have to consider shaving your mirror (on fullframe). Otherwise mirror stuck on rear element of the lens. You can use it without mirror modification with crop camera (7D) or using different adapters (no need for EF conversion) for mirrorless cameras.

Mine was damaged so my only option was to convert. You can see more about this here:

85 1.8 is good lens also for much less, to portraits don't need fast as possible lens, put distance behind model and shoot F8 it has many benefits vs wide open shoots.

Attila is right - if there is a budget limit, then FD 85 f1.8 could be another option

The 85 f1.8 is also 'magic' - it has very delicious colours !!!

and it's very light ..

All these picture were taken at f1.8 !!

The 85/1.8 is prob the least expensive 85 I can think of, I think I only paid $150 for my SSC version, and it's barely bigger than the 50/1.4 & 24/2.8 so it makes a nice trio.

Thank you all for your contributions, I'm going for it, I ordered one from Germany and got a slight discount. I'll be using it on a film camera I have so results may take some time to put up, should be fun to use |(I hope)
