And my next digital P&S will most probably be this one. 20MP with 1" sensor, carries some
DNA from the fabulous NEX 7:









Lens is 35mm equivalent to 28-100

how long will it be before we see superb cameras like this Sony - with a phone built in as the secondary device ?

Nice camera indeed, 1" sensor sounds promising. I wonder if we will see an interchangeable lens version? Would be nice to put some C mount Fujinons on it.

"Jacks or better to open" Ian, I think you're talking about the NEX 7. Don't think they would do a dummy-down of that award-winner
just because we want them to. But who knows...hummm, yeah well, we ARE talking about Sony. Wink

Twisted Evil ...And when one tries to get steadyhand for a low'light shot in a church (let's say) in the most intense moment ,then RINGS the SECONDARY DEVICE !!! Of course , got to be set on vibration too Laughing
Who wants that ??? Ok, ok , maybe that's only me , but I am a dynosaur wich doesn't has a mobile phone ....


Last night I visited a very goot friend ( a AF one , but no one is perfect Laughing ) and I saw this camera that he bought recently . WOW !
You have to see it too guys ! Wonderful toy ! Excellent really pocket camera to take along in the evening somewhere "just in case" Impressive results for low light from a compact camera in a really small package Blows away the EPL2 + Panny 20/1.7 at 1600

did you buy it already bill? if so congrats. do you have any issues composing without a vf? i do, which is why i went with the fuji x10, similar camera, 28-112 zoom, smaller sensor, but it has an optical vf. certainly the fuji is not as good as the sony in low light, but then neither is my gxr m mount! ): the fuji is also much faster--2.8--at the full telephoto end. fyi, fuji is coming out with a much improved version called the x20 in march that has a shot of rivaling the sony in low light with the benefit of the ovf...

Tony, haven't bought one yet. I'm waiting to April (my birthday) to get either this or if something
comes along to knock it out of its high chair. Kinda doubt that's going to happen, tho. Smile The more
images I see from this camera the more impressed I am with what Sony has done within parameters.

You could just grab a Samsung NX, 20mp APS-C sensor, and the 16, 20 and 30mm pancakes are all tiny and excellent, the 2/30 is capable of really stunning results. Not much larger than the RX100 but a lot cheaper.

Already have the NX100 with 20-50 zoom, 30/2 pancake, need to get the 50-200 zoom and thinking about the
60 macro. Great little system, love the NX.

Seems really nice Bill.

I was looking at the reviews at B&H and this is one of the latest ones. I of course know nothing about it.

Now made in China of inferior pieces. I bought RX 100 in September and it is wonderful and beautifully put together. I just bought another this week and there is a NOTICEABLE difference in fit, finish and materials. I looked at the bottom and it is now made in China. Shame on Sony for charging [$] and cheapening the camera. Can only imagine what it is like on the inside. No longer will buy Sony products.BH is though the best store anywhere!

Ron, that is indeed upsetting news, crap. Sad Made me go check to see if my NEX-C3
is made in China, nope, Japan, thankfully.

Yes, indeed. Well, Sony has always been a consumer oriented company, although they recently turned on to evolved amateur photography, I always expect, from such type of company, this kind of speculative decisions about production.
In the past, we've seen f.i. Zeiss refusing to subcontract to other companies the production of lenses such as the 2.8/21 Distagon or the 2/85 Sonnar ZM, because they reputed them too difficult to be manufactured outside of Zeiss,
and by doing that, they surely lost significant money because the production numbers could never match the requests. But, that's Zeiss, the companies which make this type of choice for quality over numbers
can really be counted on one hand's fingers nowadays: Zeiss, Leitz, perhaps Schneider (not sure)... not many more, I guess.

Well, the other camera I was considering is the Ricoh GRD4, but don't know if
a fixed FL of 28 is something I'll get on with. This is from the GRD3, flickr fave:

My friend said he saw both China made and Japan made RX100 in Austria . Finally he got the Japan one at Saturn in Wien .That's the story. I didn't checked the camera label but I have no reason to doubt .

Checking the largest flickr site and talking to two friends that bought the Chinese version, I'd
still go for the RX100, regardless of which country manufactured it.

True, but the RX100 is an excellent (compact) walkaround. Thinking about the NEX-6 for my second NEX body.
