Nice series.
Can the M9 extend dynamic range? Like adjusting to preserve the dark areas?

I shoot RAW, so I can adjust shadows at will within the RAW's dynamic range.
My monitor is calibrated on the grayscale:

so there shouldn't be too many pure black areas.
However, I like good contrast in my B&W "prints", so when you see pure black, that's my choice.
I like to have some pure black in my monochromes Smile I don't belong to the school of thought that think that everything must be shown.

Fair enough.
Reason I am asking is the sky has white dominate in some of the photos, while the dark areas has black dominate, but not much in between. Otherwise, the atmosphere has been nicely captured - my perception is cold and gray, but still warm when I see people around...

Yes, those were the conditions. It's quite common in the city during the winter when the sun is low: only the top of the buildings
gets direct sunlight. The rest of landscape is lit only by the sky's reflection which causes a gap of more than 4 EVs between the sky and the land.
If you don't want to HDR (which makes photos look horrible in my personal view), you need to sacrifice something at one of the ends,
because the RAW's clipping range is of 4 EV, and the dynamic range is only slightly more (something around 5 EVs).
I usually prefer to sacrifice on the left end, because clipped highlights disturb me much, but clipped blacks a lot less, actually they are
often also desireable in B&W, because they give more weight and power to the image.
Of course, one must be careful about what details to lose and what to preserve. There must be a reason in the choice.
And of course in selected areas (such as the clothes in #6 #8 #10) I did dodge with brush.
