Since I bought the Sony digital many of my lenses have not made it onto a film camera. These days I'm trying to correct that.
This is the only lens I ever bought new: http://forum.mflenses.com/a-new-buy-peleng-17mm-t43357,highlight,+peleng.html
This series was taken in Portland Maine on Sept 1st and 2nd. They are presented in chronological order.
Acros 100 film. Developed in Xtol 1:2 for 13mins. Scanned on a v700.

Nice series! I love fisheyes!
Lens is better than I expected a wide apertures.

Sad that the Belomo lenses are much more expensive here in Europe.
(~350€ in EU vs ~185€ in the USA)

Can you tell a difference to the Zenitar 16/2.8? The two lenses are both produced in the same plant as far as I know.

Laughing Thanks Orio. I definitely can respect someone not liking the fisheye effect but you have to admit, it's fun. I've taken so many pictures of that area using normal lenses that I'm getting sick of it. The Peleng reinvigorated the desire to snap-away.

Not the same plant. KMZ for Zenitar. Belomo for Peleng.

The Peleng has a much higher quality build but it's bigger. Zenitar is a little plasticy in parts but it's very compact.
The Zenitar has mixed reviews. I think there is quite a bit of variation in production due to QC issues. That being said, I believe I have a very good copy of the zenitar. Most people find it produces muddy images at wide-open. Mine is perfectly acceptable. The Peleng is surprisingly a bit better wide-open and always better at every aperture in the corners (they equal out in the center at 5.6). The only advantage of the Zenitar to me is that the petals do not come into the image space. The Peleng has vignetting because the petals come out further than the Zenitar.

Indeed Very Happy But my typical reaction to fisheye photos is:
- first one: OOHH what a crack!
- second one: yeah, nice
- third one: wasn't this image already posted the other day?
In other words: it tends to overimpose itself on the subjects. While for me subject remains king in photography.
But I completely understand what you say about fisheye helping to see same old things under a different view.
I think that if I still had one, I would use it exclusively for objects abstracts.

Your subjects in this series are very lively and this helps a lot in countering the negative effect I mentioned above.

I too have mixed feelings about fisheyes, but there is the occasional quality shot that is only possible with one. Your shot no.18 is definitely the stand-out shot for me here.
