Attila just gave me an idea yesterday about BW conversion for "reviving "of colour pictures (film or digital) wich aren't just in their best possibilities (allways a taste matter at least partly) .Wich is your experience ? (workflow , preferences ,soft used , settings ) if possible with samples . _________________ Cheers , Teo

Here's one I did a while back - http://forum.mflenses.com/rural-decay-bw-conversion-t46629.html
I didn't post before and after versions, but there's a different angle of the covered bridge shot to show how badly I screwed up the exposure that day.
The software used was DigiKam. Free, Open Source, etc. I used it on Linux, I'm not sure how polished the Windows or Mac versions are.
The DigiKam editor has presets for colored filters and several film types. I know very little about actual B+W technique, I just tried settings until I got something I liked.

I like Silver Efex (Nik Software) plugin for Lightroom/Photoshop for B/W conversion
It's a bit slow and does not work well for many pics at once but I like the results.
It has decent manual functions, it has many good presets, it can emulate different film types, colored filters etc.
To show a few examples by me:
