My travel into AF-land has started well with Sigma 17-70 (full name Sigma 17-70mm F/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM with EOS mount) lens, I really like it Embarassed

First time I tried photographing sport:

I used to have that lens. IMHO it's one of the best AF lenses you can get for reasonable money!
And it started my enthusiasm for Sigma AF lenses!

Yeah I've had the opposite experience with earlier Sigmas, they put me on to M42s instead Wink
But the 17-70 feels great.

I had the earlier version without HSM. I think most of my images were taken with that lens. My wife now has it along with my 40D.

There is an immense difference between the early and the late Sigma AF lenses!!
Anybody who dislikes Sigma and bases this judgement on the old lenses should think again!

I would agree with the caveat that QC is somewhat `creative' as far as focus goes. The 17-70 doesn't suffer from my experience, but some of the other lenses (like the 50-150) are not the most accurate (to put it mildly).
