I'm really surpised and delighted with the performance of the MD 35-70/3.5 (constant) zoom, and it started me wondering what other MD zooms are like. I'm particularly interested in the 24-35/3.5 and the 70-210/4 (both constant). Anyone have any experiences? _________________ Peter - Moderator |

4/70-210 I had in AF, excellent lens, wish I still had it.
Last 24-35 I saw on ebay went for a surprisingly large amount, good luck finding one, they seem pretty rare. _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

I think the 70-210/4 AF beercan was a different design to the MD lens. _________________ Graham - Moderator

I had both, the AF and the MD version. And manualfocus-G is correct, Minolta improved AF version visibly.
I guess the lens was good to very good at it's time but is not made for modern pixel counters. It get's a little soft especially on the long end compared to it's AF successor.
But it's still a good lens, well usable and often very cheap to get. _________________ I'm not a collector, I'm a tester

Peter, Carsten just bought a Minolta Md 24-35/3.5 hopefully he will post some test pictures soon.
I would be glad to post some test pics from my Minolta 35-70/3.5, against my 70-210/4,against my 75-200/4.5, but it will have to wait till my back heals. I can't handle any long or heavy lenses right now.
All 3 versions of the 70-210/f4 are the same optics. Minolta MD, Minolta AF BeerCan, and Leica. _________________

When you can please post pictures from the 24-50. It's rare and I would like to see if it performs as well as I think it will. It suppose to be better then the 24-35/3.5 _________________

I did a few basic shots awhile back shooting the Minolta Cosina 28-70/ 3.5-4.8 against the Minolta Leica 70-210/4. This was before I bought the Minolta Leica 35-70/3.5, but I think the results would be almost identical.
