Porn allert! Very Happy

What is your opinion on the summitar?

The Summitar is amazing. It does of course not perform in the way a modern Summicron does, but it has a real character which I definitely like.

There are some shots here in this forum...

My son (b&w, out of cam)

My daughter (colour, our of cam)

Very nice camera, Carsten, is it a present for your dad? Smile

That's a good question, Orio.

No, it isn't. It's a present for myself. Wink

I do own a Zorki-4 built in 1970, the year I was born in, and I have been looking for a 1936 Leica IIIa for ages, because that's the year my dad was born in.
But either they were broken, in shabby condition or much too expensive.

But now, I did not want to wait any longer, I wanted to have a screwfinder Leica, having seen all those wonderful cams at the Leica Meeting!
So, when I saw this camera for a decent price ind very good condition, I decided to go for it.
Now, I can look out for a 1936 IIIa with all patience while using this "almost-1936" Leica III. Wink

My dad already has a cam built in the year he was born in:

I gave him that Argus some time ago.

You bumped into a time machine in Wetzlar and got a new 1934 set? Smile

Yes it looks great! Congrats with the beauty.
Is it fun to use too, or only for display?
You made some succesfull samples, but that can be result of a tour de force?

The Leica III is very robust and feels great in your hand, better than a FED or a Zorki.
But my Zorki-4 has a much better rangefinder and is much more comfortable to use, of course, being a 36 years younger camera. Wink

With the Leica III you have to use two different finders, one to focus and another one to compose your shot.

This is very basic photography.

I have loaded a slide film in order to test the precision of the shutter.

Slightly steampunk anachronistic feel the "made in the USSR" in the background of your 1934 picture. Very Happy

Laughing Well, the "1934" refers to the cam not the picture.

And why ever?
USSR existed since 1922.
