Not much new was coming from Pentax in the last few years. But at the CP+, 9 february, they will show off some lenses which will be marketed in 2012. Some Q lenses and a 90mm f/2.8 lens for the 645D, but also two long-awaited lenses:
Model name (tentative): smc PENTAX-DA 560mm F5.6
Unifocal super-telephoto lens for use with K mount interchangeable-lens digital cameras
Sharp, well-defined images — particularly with distant subjects — thanks to the adoption of optics used in astronomical telescopes
Market launch scheduled for 2012
Model name (tentative): smc PENTAX-DA 50mm F1.8
Unifocal standard lens for use with K mount interchangeable-lens digital cameras
Maximum aperture of F1.8 for high-quality images with a superb rendition of depth and natural bokeh (out-of-focus) effect
Market launch scheduled for 2012
Yay!

DA 50/1.8 sounds like a cheap option for DA 55/1.4. Both are (probably) compatible with full frame but not really "standard" lenses as long as Pentax full frame DSLR doesn't exist |

And here they are (the pictures are too large, so I made them links instead of inline pictures):

The rear mount on my 35/2.4 has lasted a week before cracking due to me dropping it on the K5. This puts me off the 50 slightly, that and the fact that there's hardly a shortage of brilliant Pentax 50s. A cheap (under £200) 20mm and I'd be straight there. That is what is needed the most, an affordable true wide angle prime, f2.8 would be fast enough.
Still, if that ~20-40mm Limited zoom materialises and is small enough and built like the other Limiteds then it could be the perfect walkabout, 16-35 would be ideal and f/4 would do. If it captures light like a prime and has that tonal quality and rendering then I'm highly interested. |
