What should I expect? Please post samples if you have . Xmas being around , I've got one from the bay only have to pay it to replace my Kiron 28/2 wich has the "Kiron disease". At these prices , I couldn't afford a Rokkor Zuiko or Nikon 28/2

"Kiron disease", please explain. I did a search but found nothing related to lenses.

Well the rumour is:- Kiron used the wrong lubricant for all/some lenses and this seeped onto the blades making them stick.

Thank-you!

I have three Vivitar, Kiron built lenses & a Kiron 28/2.8 but no such issue.

It only affects the Kiron 28/2. Many (if not all) of them have oily/sticky diaphragms.

Exactly! I read somewhere that there were some 24/2 with oil leakage ?
Should I understand that there are not so many FD 28/2 Canons here on the forum?

My Vivitar 28mm f2 made by Kiron does have oil on the blades, but they are not sticking yet...I suppose it depends on how the lenses were stored or used to why some have problems and others don't. I often find another rumour amusing and that is:- "Kiron were started by ex Nikon engineers" erm yet they made a basic mistake of using dodgy lubricant.

Maybe they were not specialised in lubricants Laughing

Well maybe talking about Kiron is over and the thread can now get back to Canon Wink

The bokeh is quite harsh if the background is too busy ...

Thank you ! Samples, at last! yes, a little harsh bokeh but pretty sharp and contrasty ,seems to me. If I remember well , the Kiron's bokeh is smoother , but it suffers from lack of contrast WO

You're welcome. By the way all photos above are original without PP (color-contrast) except sharpening when resized.

By the way thanks to you guys about Kiron info. I was about to try that lens months ago Smile

You can have a look on the nFD too, which is a different optical formula ;
This lens is on par with the OM 28/2 MD 28/2 or K/AR 28/1.8. Or Kiron/Vivitar 28/2.
Here are some quick shots with a G1, wide open / stopped down a little / with an achromatic close-up lens (Olympus).
The bokeh is on the weird side.
Canon was a major company, so I want to say : "What did you expect ?"
These SSC/nFD are still cheap...Now.

Thank you for posting these .
The lens is still at better prices than the other contenders (except Kiron ,wich goes ,with luck at 50-60E or even better )
Well , I am expecting a good sharpness and contrast from wide open better than the Kiron 28/2 (wich is lacking contrast WO )
the lens is on the way now , I should get it in the Christmas days Wink
I hope I'll be able to post some samples here soon.

Perhaps you're right for the contrast WO, but the Kiron is nice lens yet, with a bokeh on the neutral side

I agree with the bokeh ,I like it too ,and the slightly "hazy" rendering in WO (the unique aperture in my copy Laughing ) is good for soft portraits.I think I'll keep that too , for the moment.

Finally , the lens arrived ! Good condition ,clean glass ,some marks of usage on the barrel . It was a splendid sunny day until I got out to take some test shots ,when the light turned dull and foggy almost instantly Evil or Very Mad

F2 : No PP ,no sharpening JPEG straight from the camera (NEX3) set on "standard" ,color 0,sharpness 0,contrast 0

some purple fringing seems to be present WO ,but gets better at 2.5 and dissapeares at 2.8 ,wich is tack sharp
