Pentax Q stress test by Sandy Ramirez:

The end conclusion is surprising, to say the least. He even prefers the Q above the new Nikon J1, as I found out while reading Steve Huff's blog (read the comments below the article):
http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2011/09/21/nikon-enters-the-game-with-the-new-mirrorless-j1-and-v1-cameras/
Sandy Ramirez writes: "I handled the J1 today, and did a review for Adorama of the Q. To be honest Steve, the Q is light years ahead in usability, and feels as solid as a brick thanks to it’s construction. The J1 felt literally like a plastic toy in my hand and gave me zero confidence in handling it." _________________ Peter - Moderator

handled a Q some days ago in a big camera shop in Osaka.
It really feels very well, great built, handling, sure fun to use.
high ISO test shots inside the shop were quite noisy, even though it may compare favorably with other small sensor cameras.
I was surprised at the shallow dof, well, with the standard prime wide open at close focus. I wonder if the 'bokeh filter' was turned on? _________________ my photos on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kuuan/collections |

I just ran across a listing for the Q at B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/801506-REG/Pentax_15073_Q_CAMERA_KIT_w_47mm.html/
Guess I'm out of touch -- this is the first I've heard of it. I'm curious if anyone here has had a chance to use it on a more extensive basis?
It seems to be targeting the same market segment as the Nikon 1 because of its small sensor size (less that 1/2 inch, or a bit more than 1 cm). I'm not so sure I understand the reasoning behind a small-sensor interchangeable lens camera. Almost reminds me of the Pentax Auto 110, which was just as much an exercise in levity as it was in production quality. _________________ Michael

I'm still annoyed by the slow startup but other than that it's a great little camera! _________________ Peter - Moderator
