I have written to the seller, but I have little hope in receiving any clarity. They are the easily befuddled kind who find items at estates, and identify lenses by the filter size which is often attached. Regardless of what they may say, it is easy to deduce that this is the 28mm lens, and that it isn't f2 or f3.5. I have already committed a sizable chunk of money on the bid, and there are just a few days left.

I agree with what you're saying, but it isn't that important for me at the moment. I have recently purchased a Spotmatic, and I have only one Takumar (135mm), so I will win this bid, perhaps, and have a 28mm and 50mm f1.4 and another 135mm, and a nice camera too. 
So, within a few weeks, I will be able to look at the lens and read exactly what it says. But if it does say f1.8 on it, which it may, then the mystery still persists...unless someone here knows something about it.
