The first one is very good!
The second one perhaps too many greys.

But I prefer the colour versions, too.
Fact is, they were conceived as colour shots to start with. It does not happen often that a great colour shot translates into a great B&W. One must "see in B&W" first, this is the most difficult thing IMHO, the best B&W image starts before clicking the shutter.

The first one works well as B&W for me, but I'm not sure about the second - the composition is good but the tones don't quite work.

B+W works best with strong contrasts - that is why the first one is much better than the second. Basically you need strong variations in light and the second one is too evenly lit. IMHO

1 is very nice - beautiful dappled light on the hills.
