They want to strangle the 5DIII obviously.

A fantastic camera no doubt, and at a reasonable price. One of the best news for photography in years, that the full frame sensors are getting pushed down in price so everyone can know the joy of shooting like your supposed to. Unfortunately it's not for me, as I'd need to spend 3x the amount I paid for the camera for leitax adapters. Too bad.. I hope Canon follows soon, and then Nikon takes another leap at making the really cheap models also have full frame, and so forth..

I'm more leaning towards abandoning canon for Sony right now, once they release a FF mirrorless. The sensors just seem to leave the canon in the dust.

this is great news, FF cameras are getting cheaper

some rumors wanted it to cost 1500 only, the more realistic ones had put it at 2000. Launch price of 2100 most likely will mean below 2000 very soon.

24.3MP Full-frame CMOS sensor sounds familiar, I guess it is the same Sony sensor as in the new FF Sony A99, RX1 and ( NEX-VG900 ) cameras? - which btw. cost 2800 ( 3300 )

Not a bad idea, actually Laughing
5DIII was an overpriced disappointment (I did not buy it).

However, this poses a dilemma for me:
If (say if) I can afford to try the new Sonnar 2/135, which mount should I choose?
ZF or ZE?
My main camera is still the 5DII, but I often use the NEX too.

Why would you question the mount if they are your two main cameras? Surely you'd buy the ZE for auto aperture, no?

Because I expect a Zeiss lens to be with me for many more years than any digital body.
So, having a manual aperture becomes important.
For example my 2/100 Makro Planar ZE cannot be used effectively on the NEX. Only at f/2.
In the future I could possibly buy a Nikon body. I am no fanboy.

Ah, I see. Well in that case the zf version is the obvious choice Laughing

@Orio

That's no surprise, surely? and we benefit from the competition. Very Happy

Actually, what surprised me is that it took them so long (to release a direct competitor to the 5D series).
So far Nikon cameras were priced and featured either higher or lower.

The famous D400 NIKON is arrived, but with another name...

So many people on forums ask for years to get an evolution of the previous D300/D300s.

To my mind, I'm using a D300s, and I don't really see the need to change for this model. Question of taste !

I guess that "D400" means different things to different people. For some it's a "better" sensor - more pixels and superior performance, in DX format, and in a D300(s) body. The D7000 sensor beats that in the D300s but not by much - and the D7000 doesn't have all the "bells and whistles" that you get in "pro" body.
