Hi all,

I have found some Rollei QBM lenses:

A Planar 50/1.8
A Rollei HFT 50/1.8 (same as above ?)
A Rollei 35/2.8
A Rollei 85/2.8

Having a spare QBM replacement mount for my EOS camera, which one would you grab from these ?

Their prices span from 39 up to 60 euros ...

Thanks for your advices ...

P.S.: I don't know nothing about Rollei lenses, the only one i have (rarely) used up to now is an Ultron 55/1.4 ...

if you dont have a really good 50mm i'd grab the hft--its the same as the zeiss planar with a different (hft) coating. i think this is the best of the bunch, hft being top of the line rollei. if you could pick up either the 35 or 85 cheap, i would do it also!

Do rollei make their own lenses or are they rebadged zeiss and schneider lenses?

Planars are great, one of best 50mm lenses. It's Zeiss formula.

35 and 85 lenses are Rollei Distagon and Sonnar or Rolleinars?

Distagon and Sonnar was made under Zeiss licence - well, just Zeiss.
Sonnar is fantastic from wide-open, Distagon needs to be stopped down to f4, but colors and contrast is great.
Rolleinars was made by Mamyia. They was cheaper alternatives to Zeiss lenses. I didn't try 35 and 85, only 1.4/55 and 2.8/135, both are very good lens, they only lack in color rendering behind Zeisses. Anyway Rolleinar 85 is well regarded lens, definitely worth of 60€.

QBM adapted to Canon is nit a great recipe to reach infinity focus.
Wides can become too close to the mirror also.
I had a Top quality brass Kinday adapter and 35 1.4 was almost not usable in 5Dii.
Just so you know what you are in for.
Otherwise All the QBM lenses are top quality. Even the Singapore made ones!
Hood shooting Very Happy

OK guys, following your advices i bought a Voigtlander Color-Dynarex 85/2.8 AR and a Rollei HFT Planar 50/1.8 (and, while in the same shop, grabbed also a nice Pentax-K 28/3.5 for my K10D). I didn't buy the 35/2.8 because i'm quite sure it would have hit the mirror.

A quick-and-dirty test on the 85mm wide open has been quite successful but, to see some samples, you will have to wait at least two days (tomorrow evening i have a jazz concert) ...

Thanks to all for your advices and help, i think i have two (maybe three, with the 28/3.5 P/K) more fine lenses to play with Very Happy ...

The hic is that now i need at least one more replacement mount, and they are quite $$$ Twisted Evil ...

I think it's time to say Mamiya Rolleinars were cheaper alternative to Zeiss - true (production costs were much lower in Japan at the time), but not of inferior quality!
Rolleinar (Voigtländer Color Ultron) 1.4/55mm was culmination of Tomioka and Mamiya optical knowledge.
