Hi
I recently picked up an old Zenit SLR with a Mir 1B on the front.
I also have the Mir 1 1958 Brussels version.
The 1B is a much more modern lens with a different manufacturing logo on it compared to the big solid older Mir 1.
I've had a quick search but can't find any info on the difference and wondered if anyone could enlighten me.
Thanks. _________________

My 1B is N87xxx with the Vologda logo, so it's 5 years older. The basic preset design looks the same but the grips are very different. _________________ Peter - Moderator |

I think the problem is the general soviet quality control issue from the 70's 80's not the formula. So you can get a brilliant lens or not .. _________________ MF: Kodak DCS SLR/c; Samsung NX10; OM-10; Canon T50

I am still yet to test it which I intend to do this weekend but one thing I don't like, at 70cm the minimum focusing distance is huge considering it's a sub 50mm lens. Not very fond of that since I enjoy preserving minimum close focusing capabilities other wise it is just too limited for the subjects I usually pick.
Well for what it cost me I can always get my investment back anyway. _________________ Body: Fujifilm X-E1

I have a Мир-1В, made in 1985, same as this one : http://forum.mflenses.com/fs-mir-1b-37mm-f-2-8-m42-mount-t27867,highlight,%2Bmir+%2B1b+%2B37mm.html
B is for Vologda as mentionned before.
Vologda Optical and Mechanical Plant, Vologda.
Its plastic crystal box and its caps have the letter "B" with a beam passing through it, stylized bow and arrow.
Originally the company was referred to as the Vologda Instrument-Making Plant "Ray" (a division of VOMZ).
The emblem was used until the late 1980s.
It was then replaced. _________________ Olivier - Moderator

The two first numbers give the production year.
It surely has been produced in Vologda. The logo should be an arrow through a bow. It's on the cap or under the plastic crystal box's bottom.
and... it is on the front ring !!!
I can see it on your picture between the serial number and the name. I thought it was a "+". In fact it's an arrow on a bow. _________________ Olivier - Moderator
